Unfortunately, I can't answer your question, but would really appreciate

any input anyone has on this. I was first diagnosed with Rheumatoid

Arthritis. I always suspected lyme. I just recently got a positive

lyme test. My llmd says we won't know whether or not I have RA until

the lyme is under control. How could I suddenly get both? Even if the

lyme causes other diseases, how could I get RA so quickly. I don't

understand the role of lyme in other diseases. Can anyone enlighten me?

Hi ,

Please forgive my ignorance, but my understanding of MS was that it was a

'clinical diagnosis' only and no definitive tests. Many with Lyme show

demylation similar to MS and other CNS illnesses...

As for 'vertigo' -- this is a symptom of Lyme (and possibly some of the

" co-infections " ), and from what I understand usually shows up in 'late' Lyme

stage and/or unresolved infections.

http://www.anapsid.org/Lyme/symptoms/tbi-symptoms.html

QUESTION:  Were you ever tested for " co-infections " along with 'Lyme Disease'?

Here is a link for a good summary of the usual group:

http://www.lymeinfo.net/coinfectionarticle.html

West Nile is now considere a " co-infection " as listed by Turn the Corner

Foundation:

http://www.turnthecorner.org/tick-borne-disorders.htm

Please also keep in mind that for each " co-infection " listed, there are usually

several strains of which are NOT tested for.

For example, I have two strains of Bartonella yet only Bartonella henselae

(Cat-scratch disease) is tested for in North America. The other strain I have is

called Bartonella quintana (Trench Fever), which is spread by sheep and cattle

and that the Melisa Lab in Germany tested for this.

Babesiosis  is another infection of which they usually only test for one strain

(Babesia-Microti). This strain is most common along the East Coast of North

American and is rarely found in Europe. Since I was infected / took ill in the

UK/Ireland... testing me for this was useless by most labs.

In my case, my extreme vertigo/balance issues mostly cleared up after I

completed 10-months of treatment for Babesiosis. Testing for this was done at

Igenex using their Babesia FISH (RNA) test since I could not find any labs to

run all of the European strains.

Lastly, there are several medical centres and univesities now doing research /

studies on MS & Lyme Disease that you may be able to get your hands on. One of

the main Lyme Literate MDs (I think it was Dr. ) who did an

amazing presentation on this in late 2005. Here is a link that makes reference

to it:

Mimi,

The Lyme arthritis is very similar to RA, but not the same. The presence of

the spirochetes in your joint causes painful inflammation that tends to

linger and sometimes does not go away. My fingers hurt really bad just typing,

I

can no longer do any repetitive motions, some days I cannot lift the water

pitcher from my fridge. Some of my docs think they cured the Lyme and I have

Post Lyme Syndrome, others wonder wether it is chronic Lyme, but the symptoms

are the same. I think if your immune system is overactively trying to fight

the Lyme germs it causes the horrible Rheumatoid arthritis like Lyme

arthritis, even if Lyme is no longer present or encapsulated and in hiding.
