Guest guest
Some times naltrexone does cause transient lft's - but they almost always go back down to normal levels. I have some info on by blog (from pubmed) about naltrexone and the liver. http://nolahepper.blogspot.com/2010/02/low-dose-naltrexone-ldn-and-liver.html I have been using LDN for over two years for my hepatitis c with great results. My ALT dropped from 174 to normal range as did my AST - 105 to 30. My viral load went from 1,200,000 to 16,000. Sometimes if a person has a problem with gluten, the LDN will trigger a repsponse which can cause elevated enzymes - a gluten free diet, at least initially with LDN really can help. Good luck, Nola Chris [low dose naltrexone] elevated liver blood tests. I have a cohort who is treating a patient (don’t know the condition) : elevation of liver enzymes AST/ALT (from normal to 400s) in few months on LDN (slowly tapered up from 1.5 to 4.5 mg)? The patient clinically improved so much, all focal neuro deficit symptoms are gone, but LFT spiked up. She is also on Progesterone, NAC, Estrodim, and our classics :EPA/DHA, Vit D, AplhaBAse, adaptogens NO prescription meds. Does anybody have experience with liver irritation and enzymes (ALT, AST) rising on LDN? Guest guest
Hi Doc, I have been on LDN for just about 3 weeks. I have Crohn's Disease, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and primary sclerosing cholangitis. My liver numbers have been as high as the 700s but usually in the 100s on Urso. Well I just had my liver numbers checked to see if the LDN is doing anything. My numbers are now in the 20s and 40s, which is low to mid range on the expected results. My GI is astounded! I have gone in just a few weeks from having daily multiple sharp pains in my liver to maybe one pain but usually none per day. I have also gone from 3 or more BMs to one every other day. My thyroid levels have gone from a stubborn 10-11 TSH to 3.46 on my last check. I am never going off this stuff! I know it is early for me to say something as I don't have much experience, but I wanted to tell you that so far I have had just the opposite effect on LDN. With Vit D being metabolized in the liver, I would make sure the patient isn't taking too much. They tried to put me on megadoses but my liver would have none of it. How is her thyroid? My enzymes also go up when my TSH is high. Hopefully someone who has been on LDN longer than I will have some additional input for you.
