Guest guest
I had a member ask me offline how long I was on abx, whether I have co-infections, and how long I've gone without symptoms. It made me realize that I may have given the impression that I'm feeling well. I'm not. Here's the rest of my reply. I was on abx for more than 5 years. Every time I stopped, I'd start to feel ill within 4 weeks, usually less. I always herxed when I restarted abx or changed abx. I took just about every class of abx: doxy, flagyll, biaxin, omnicef, ketek (and some I've forgotten). I also took plaquenil and fluconazole (Diflucan). I recently tested positive for babesia. The last time I had my CD57 checked it was over 150 -- and I still felt awful when I stopped taking doxy. I've also tested positive for HHV-6 and EBV, although it's sort of hard to tell with those tests whether the infection is currently active. Unfortunately, I'm not without symptoms. I've developed fibromyalgia in the past 6 months and it's really hard to tell what's fibro and what's Lyme. I also have a sleep disorder, hypothyroidism, and depression. I don't know how many of these chronic illnesses were caused by Lyme. Most of the time I feel pretty cruddy, but I don't feel worse than I did when I was taking abx. I really needed a break from abx and despite the exorbitant cost of the Zhang protocol, I'm going to continue it for another month to see how I do. I've still got a good supply of doxy and fluconazole (they seem to work the best for me) and I won't hesitate to use them if my LLMD tells me it's OK to take them along with Zhang -- and I can tell that I need a boost.
