Guest guest
There are what we call " withdrawal " symptoms from treatment, what we get when the treatment leaves our body. I'm not sure that would necessarily be what you are experiencing. Anything to do with heaviness in the chest I would keep after my doctor. Is it your heart or your lungs? Perhaps your red blood cells are low? Alley

Guest guest
Wow Sharon.... Since about my 5th week of treatment, I'd been complaining about something going on in my lungs. The interns at County wouldn't listen to me...wouldn't even listen to my lungs. About 6 weeks ago (I'm in week 41 of treatment now) with a deep mucus cough to the point I had to stop smoking because I couldn't breath, they finally paid attention. Listened to my lungs, did a chest xray and when it came back fine, they declared I had ashma. Put me on two different inhalers: atrovent for preventative and Albuterol for emergencies which have helped considerably. Be careful with inhalers...most come with steroids and we can't do steroids. They also gave me a tube for doing the inhalers through...you insert the inhaler in one end and inhale through the other end. Without the tube thingy, you can get a sore throat where the stuff hits the back of your throat and lose a lot of the meds because they end up in your mouth. I chalked it up to a lifetime of smoking and the fact that Chicago has the highest ashma count in the country. But now that you mention it, maybe it does have some relation to treatment...and I'd like to know if that is true. Tatezi question Hi everyone I have a question regarding after treatment. I finished last Dec, so far still show cleared of the virus. But I am experiencing what almost feels like asthma from what I have heard about it or something, hard to breathe, pressure in chest. Had a chest x-ray and all ok there. Is asthma something that can occur as a result of treatment?

Guest guest
Hi Alley, It feels like its in the lungs. Hard to explain but like I am not getting the amount of oxygen I used to get, but your right, I need to just keep bringing it up til we figure out what it is.Breathlessness is a panicky feeling. Guest guest
Hi Tatezi I noticed it early on in treatment too but chalked it up to getting anemic, but I am not anemic anymore so can't be that. Are the inhalers helping ?

Guest guest
I got that breathless feeling on treatment too. I couldn't walk from my car to my desk without stopping a couple of times to catch my breath. My heart pounding like It was gonna explode. It was awful. It's the treatment. Lowers the red blood cells. I never went out of the limits for any of the labs, but still, you feel it. I took extra folic acid (b12/b vitamins) to help with that. Keep after your doc. It is a part of treatment and sometimes it's hard to say what is " normal " and what is not, even docs have a hard time with it because it varies so much patient to patient. Guest guest
Sharon.... They called mine ashma because I had a wheeze when breathing...my lungs also felt heavy and if I breathed deeply or laughed, I'd go into a coughing spasm. Yeah, breathlessness if a real panicky feeling...I didn't like it at all. They put me on these inhalers and they have helped a lot. At first I couldn't do them because my throat got so sore where it hit when I inhalled...but they gave me an " aero chamber " so it mixes with air before hitting the back of my throat. That's made a huge difference. Tatezi Re: question Hi Alley, It feels like its in the lungs. Guest guest
Hi Tatezi, I haev been off treatment since mid Dec 2003 . I had genotype 2A so only had to complete 6 months.
Guest guest
But Alley, there is a difference between the breathlessness caused by the Riba anemia...and ashma. With Riba anemia you are breathless when moving....ashma you are breathless always and have a wheeze. Sharon, are you still in treatment? I remember you started a month or two before I did and I'm down to 6 weeks. Tatezi Re: question I got that breathless feeling on treatment too. Guest guest
Yep that's true. That's what I'm trying to discern, is it an asthma, a wheezing with the bronchial tubes closing up, or a breathlessness not where the broncial tubes are closing. Guest guest
Yeah, I thought you should be done with treatment now. How are they treating your ashma? I'm so annoyed with my ashma...I can roll around in bed breathing and make tonal noises with my wheeze. Are you undetectable? Re: question Hi Tatezi, I haev been off treatment since mid Dec 2003 . Guest guest
Mine is definately ashma...may be complimcated by a little anemia...but I most definitely have ashma....I did the anmeia thing and this is nothing like that. Shucks, I can make tunes with the wheezing when I lie down and move around.. Tatezi Re: question Yep that's true.
