Guest guest
Rob, you are sure good person. But you can not be serious thinking that doctors can't cut the woman off pain killers... they do..they don't' care that she suffered thru withdrawals. she is as good to them as her money... she is low income, 52 years old woman looking tired and in pain.... we sent her some money but without prescriptions she can't get the drug..well....on the streets of Tallahassee..maybe.. and here in Utah lots of people think you are an addict if you need pills... I know, I am venting. I have a husband who will be facing disability , for the same reason we all are here... back and neck problems...... God help us all.. You all have painless night. Izabela. Guest guest
Thank you Dave. I talked to my husband we will couch her. You know..some people are what they are..need to be pushed really hard to be able to do the walking, knocking and asking... I hope she will get the help she needs... Thank you all for help. In PA they will fast track you if your really destitute. you can have emergency Cash and food stamps in hand in 2-3 days. I also got help from my church, from other churches, from non government public assistance, and from the utility company. When I told them I just had back surgery and couldn't work, the local electric company gave me 3 months free electric no questions asked. It helped that up until then I had paid them dutifully for 20 years. I got free food from the foodbank, from my church group. I was assigned free legal counsel when my food stamps were rejected. I was rejected ( I don't mean to offend anyone here ) I was up until that point middle class in a middle class suburb. After surgery I was thrown into poverty overnight. So now I was coming into center city looking for help. I didn't fit the profile so they rejected me outright. I got a free lawyer and eventually got 6 months back foodstamps plus cash assistance and medicare. If she has any pain pills left, my suggestion would be to slowly ease off them until she gets help. I once had to go cold turkey due to a Dr who thought all I needed was ibuprofen after 2 years of narcotics. It wasn't very pretty. I never want to go through that again. I've now been on Vicoden and others since Jan 2000, 8 years. I thank God I have a wonderful and understanding primary care physician Best of blessings to you and yours, Dave

I know from experience that you can get help. It may differ from state to state but I was able to get it in PA. I had to humble myself, not be afraid to ask or stick up for myself. You can also get a phone if you don't have one for $12/month with limited calling scope. You are right about quick service if you are homeless or broke. I worked at Mental Health Crisis House, and we had the county pay for homeless people to stay until we could get them housing. It really was a social service issue, but there is no emergency housing , expect shelters. If you don't get there early, u wouldn't get a bed. I think Phili probably has more shelters than the Lehigh Valley. There is only about 5 for Northhamton and Lehigh counties. I'm glad you found a good doctor to help out with the pain. It took me 7 1/2 years to get any doctor to believe that I was in so much pain. They feed me so much Naproxen, that it has no effect on me. None of the antiinflammatories work anymore. Its sad that in this country we under treat pain. I read that in Europe it is alot diffferent. Their health care system is MUCH better. They are more aggressive in treating pain. Here doctors are afraid that we are all going to be drug addicts! You do have to tamper off narcotics meds so you don't have major withdrawal and rebound pain. I hope you are doing ok. Take care. I am very blessed to have a Doctor who believes me, I had to sign papers saying I would not sell them or Doctor shop or I would lose my prescriptions. I also must come in for follow up visits, every three months, get regular liver tests, and the Oxycoton scripts are written with No refills 90 days worth, so I need to see him everytime I need a new script.
