The roof of my mouth hurts to where I hardly chew I still manage, however. My tongue feels like I burned it but I didn't. It has felt this way for about a week now. Is it another symptom or am I going crazy? Guest guest
I had the leg-straightening procedure done twice; once when I was 9 and again when I was 13. Both times it was done at the Shriner's Hospital in Springfield MA. It's called a bilateral tibial osteotomy. While this isn't the Dr. Kopits version, I'm grateful for the work that was done on me. My legs are stick straight compared to what they used to look like when I was a kid. I was in long-legged casts for 6 weeks but the biggest bummer is that those evil people at Shriner's have a school in the hospital. To be filed under " what a small world it is! " category -- while I was under Shriner's care, the chief of Orthopedic Surgery was a doctor named Kruger (forget his first name). Our very own Dr. Ain studied under him. Not sure of the exact time line here, but I got this info from Dr. Ain himself when he asked about the scars on my legs. Rose J.
Guest guest
I had a procedure done in 1973 by Dr. Boettcher (pronounced betcher) in Seattle Washington. It is not simple and required 12 weeks in casts (six in a spika sp? cast and six more weeks in two straightlegged casts). They said the procedure would last about ten years but I'm on 25 + years now. karin On Wed, 13 Dec 2000 11:58:45 -0500 " heather davis " <had1358@...> writes: > Hi, I am an acon and I'm 42 and never knew that you could correct > bowed leg > on a dwarf > > > >From: ABritt1041@... > >To: > Dwarfismegroups > >Subject: Question > >Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2000 11:19:37 EST > > > > I have a question for any of you who have had the " simple " > procedure DR > >Kopits does to correct bowed legs. Guest guest
Hi , I think a lot of people use those terms interchangeably. If the sensitivity of the test is to <200 and you have no detectable virus, then I would say you are 'undetectable'. But you may also be in remission. If your viral load STAYS undetectable for 6 months after stopping treatment, a sustained response, then I guess you would call that being in remission. I'm sure there are probably more than one opinion on the 'proper' use of these terms! How ever you want to word it, I hope you stay that way! Guest guest
Hi , It means you are undectectable. There is no way to check the viral load that would read " 0 " . It can be checked down to 5-8, but that is the lowest. Hey--down to 200 is great! Let's hope it stays that way. Good luck, Betty

Guest guest
I am so happy for you that your load is only 200. Last June when my test came back with 3,000 my nurse told me that anything under 5,000 was considered un-detectable and that if I continued to be 3,000 or below after 6 months off of treatment I would be considered ( " cured " ) Her word not mine. Well anyway that wasn't to be for me this time around but maybe next time. I have read from info found online that the pegylated tx has much better success rate than the intron A therapy. I can only hope that is right. Anyway congrats to you !!! Dear Trish, It doesn't sound like that nurse knew what she was talking about. If you have detectable virus, how can she say you are 'undetectable'? Doesn't even make sense. There are PCR tests to check for viral load, and they can all have different sensativity levels. Like '<5000', or '<100,000', or '<500', or '<200', or '<100'. Any time your viral load is BELOW the sensativity of the test being used it will show up as 'undectable'. That doesn't mean you are cured though. It only means there wasn't enough virus in the serum sample for the test to detect. The only 'cure' would be if you had absolutely ZERO virus, and there is no test that can detect down to zero. If you remain undetectable for at least 6 months you are considered to have a 'sustained response' to treatment. I don't know where your nurse would have gotten that info, because it is not correct. It sounds like the PCR test they were using had a sensativity of <3000 and your viral load was under that, so it was 'undetectable', but I can't figure out the <5000 part at all. People have gone undetectable to <100, and still had the virus show up again.
