Fibromyalgia / heart problems

I have been dealing with lyme for over 2 years now and recently had a

hospital stay due to an issue with my heart. They thought that I had

an infection in an artery, but it ended up being a torn " parachute

type " string instead. I had a picc line over a year ago for 3 months

which may have been the cause of this finding. Anyone else with

anything like this??? The doctor's also have recently found a heart

murmur, which I have never had. On another note, while in the hospital

a Rheumatoid Arthritis doctor came in to visit me and diagnosed me with

fibromyalgia, which no one has ever told me I have ever had before. I

am so very confused. Do I go to see a rheumatoid doctor or do I stick

with the Lyme doctor I have been seeing????

I had fibromyalgia for ten years before I contracted lyme. When I had

the initial symptoms of lyme in December 2007, I had four symptoms:

1. The fibromyalgia got worse with no increase in activity or stress

2. I had the bullet hole rash

3. I began having strange heart palpitations

4. I felt like I had a flu

So, I would suggest that you continue to see your lyme doc.

Fibromyalgia is a common side benefit of lyme. I just had it before I

contracted lyme.

Heart palpitations are also a side benefit of lyme.

Ahhh....you've fallen into the political pit.

Note the book mentioned at the bottom of this post. Pamela Weintraub

explains this very well in in " Cure Unknown. "

Rheumatologists would rather diagnose RA or FM than Lyme, which they

appear to have their own unique diagnosis for. Some of the most

vociferous anti-chronic-Lyme docs around are rheumatologists who hew

to the narrowest possible definition of Lyme: if you don't have a

bullseye rash, swollen knees, and five clear bands on a Western Blot,

they won't accept a Lyme diagnosis, period. Since only a very narrow

slice of us meet all that criteria, he's probably quite sure in his

own mind that you don't have Lyme, and is trying to hang you with a

diagnosis that will allow him to bill insurance for your treatment

anyway.

So take the FM diagnosis for what it's worth -- which from an

insurance standpoint, may be quite a bit, depending on what he wants

to do to you. If you want what this guy is offering (something you

should check out with your Lyme doc at every step -- for example, if

he tries to give you steroids, your answer is not only " no, " but

" HELL, NO " ), then stick that big ol' grain of salt in your cheek and

play along. He's just doing what his training tells him to. But

remember, always, that you have another agenda entirely -- and that's

getting rid of the Lyme that (assuming you've been diagnosed by a

competent Lyme doc) is almost certainly causing your " FM " symptoms.

I wouldn't leave the Lyme doc until you've had a very serious

discussion with him or her about this.

Keri,

Stay with your LLMD. The fibromyalgia is most likely due to the Lyme.

Or perhaps you had Lyme all along did not get it properly diagnosed? Under

our Skin movie and the book Lyme Cure Unknown both indicate that

Fibromyalgia is in reality misdiagnosed Lyme Disease.
