Guest guest
I am a late stage Lymeee but three of my family members had tick bites and produced the EM bulleye rash with in hours to days..They were prescribed the same dose of doxy as your doc recommended. They have to Lyme symptoms THANK GOD~ My first signs were stiff neck then joint pains...along with flulike symptoms and intense fatigue...that was fall2008....I am now on a two yr triple abx mega dose plan with herbs and all kinds of potions..I hope your daughter is ok...Dar From: oakridge@... Date: Mon, 7 Mar 2011 18:03:55 -0800 Subject: [ ] Help - My daughter had a tick embedded in her shoulder on Saturday. I suggested she see a doctor and ask for antibiotics as a precautionary measure. She had to wait until today to see a doctor. The doctor prescribed 100 mg of doxicilin twice a day (28 pills total). I don't believe this is a proper dose. Does anyone have any suggestions. Her neck is stiff and her entire shoulder hurts from the bite. The doctor started telling her how to stretch her neck when she sleeps in a bad position. What does one do in a situation like this. Please. I don't want her to be another lyme victim. [ ] Tooth issues Before I went to the DR for pain in joints, I went to the dentist for pain in one of my teeth. As he proceeded to drill the existing filling the back of my tooth cracked off, he then informed me I needed a root canal. This has been seen December of last year. The following week I was diagnosed with lymes and in severe pain , the tooth has still not been sealed and I am having severe tooth pain in that tooth. If I think about it the joint pain really started after the tooth was worked on. Even being on dyciclymine for 12 days now I still have no relief in the tooth. Finally the MD gave me Relifin and it stops the joint pain. I will be going back to the dentist and addressing this tooth problem next week. I pray I don;t loose my tooth. Guest guest
If she were diagnosed with Lyme, I'd agree, but remember, this is *prophylactic*. I don't know if the dose is high enough; I do think the length of time is probably enough. Guest guest
100mg Doxycycline twice a day for acute Lyme is the standard recommendation. An MD who is not Lyme Literate probably won't prescribe more than 2 weeks, but from my experience that isn't always enough time. The second time I had acute Lyme (with EM rash) I got only 2 weeks. The first time I got 3 weeks (I think because the rash was larger). Anyway I ended up with chronic Lyme which took 6 years to diagnose. All my symptoms went away with each treatment. It took 1 1/2 years and then I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I never felt 100% after that. How old is your daughter? Doxycycline is not used with children. They are usually given Amoxicillin. The good news is if she's been infected. It's in an early and very treatable stage. Best wishes, Kim [ ] Help - > > > > > > > My daughter had a tick embedded in her shoulder on Saturday. Guest guest
Please see a LLMD DR quickly as they will take this seriously! I was actually diagnosed by my Naturalpathic Dr. after 8 years of suffering. No mainstream medical dr. even considered Lyme. If you can't find a LLMD, maybe look into seeing a Naturalpathic, they may be able to refer you to a LLMD. Hope this helps, praying for daughter. I hate to think of anyone else suffering with this horrible disease. (notlovinlyme@...) > > My daughter had a tick embedded in her shoulder on Saturday. Guest guest
Your doctor is doing the right thing as best we've heard it - for now. The rule of thumb is that antibiotics taken two or three times a day for about two weeks should kill the Lyme bug IF TAKEN WITHIN ABOUT TWO WEEKS OF INFECTION. (The co-infections may be trickier.) If taken more than two weeks after infection, things get more risky. I would keep your doctor advised of her symptoms and level of pain every three days or so. You should keep a diary yourself of her symptoms and pain level. I hope you kept the tick (in a plastic container) - it can be diagnosed. If the occurrence of symptoms persists for a month, definitely keep your doctor informed and ask his/her opinion about your consulting an LLMD. You may not need an LLMD - but you certainly don't want her developing Chronic Lyme Disease. > > My daughter had a tick embedded in her shoulder on Saturday. Guest guest
I think Steve's advice is good. Also, the stiffness etc is probably not from lyme disease per se -- I don't think anyone develops lyme symptoms that quickly (i.e. within 24 hours). I've been bitten by ticks and felt nothing; however, when my children have been bitten they also have had pain. My oldest had shoulder pain when he was bitten under his arm, and he did not develop lyme disease (and he wasn't even on preventative antibiotics). Guest guest
, you've missed that this doxycyline is because she was bitten by a tick -- it is to *prevent* lyme disease. She has not been diagnosed with lyme disease. If she had been then that's a completely different story and she'd need at least 6 weeks and probably more of the doxycycline. But this is ONLY because she was bitten by a tick. Actually, I think 14 days of prophylactic doxy is at the longer end of treatment time. Guest guest
My husband was bit by a tick, found it within a few hours (he had been raking) and took 100 mg 2x/day for 2 weeks preventatively. Within 2 months, he was very sick, and tested positive for lyme. Once he saw an LLMD, he was told that 6 weeks of abx after a tick bite is what he recommends. > > > > > > My daughter had a tick embedded in her shoulder on Saturday.
