Guest guest
Well, that's great news if you've only had lyme for a year! Even though it isn't nearly as bad as it can be it would be a good idea to go to an LLMD. You need to be tested for co-infections because if you have one or more of them, some are treated with different antibiotics. My LLMD treated my recent lyme infection (i.e. not long term, a recent infection) with 200 mg. doxycycline twice a day, so 400 mg total. Doxycycline is one of the most effective drugs against Lyme. However, some doctors believe the dose has to be higher than what you are taking. My LLMD also believes in treating for 5 weeks AFTER the symptoms have completely cleared up. For my most recent bout of lyme (I've had it 5 times but caught it early each time) my main symptom was joint pain, and I ended up on the doxy for four months using the " treat for five weeks after symptoms are gone " regime. If you've had it for a year, you should start to feel better pretty quickly on the doxy. But I would seriously look into taking a higher dose, and for a longer period. And again, getting tested for other tick borne diseases (bartonella, babesiosis, ehrlichiosis). Guest guest
Dear , This is not an easy answer because no one knows really...we all have different mixes of bacteria/viruses/nematodes/ fungi/other parasites so what may work for one person may not work for another. Testing, even though flawed is about all we have to go by and symptoms. Start reading and asking lots of questions and you will figure out the lay of the land, so to speak...Regards, Dolores 813-235-9542 if you want to chat.. Guest guest
In my opinion 100 mgs of doxy is nothing. You need help and soon. I would go to ILADS.org and read everything including Burroscano's treatment protocol. If you have had this a year you are going to need a good doctor who treats Lyme full time. You probably have coinfections and those need treating, also. You could join LymeNet and search and read their postings. You can also ask for a doctor on that forum. I feel you need to get educated in order to advocate for your own health. Kari ---

Guest guest
Um...where to start. First: If you've been infected for a year, the odds are good that 14 days of doxy are not going to rid you of Lyme. You should go ahead and try it, to see what happens. If you do have Lyme, you will probably feel good and sick while on the drug (a herx reaction -- and then perhaps a bit better when you stop, because the drug has pushed the Lyme back a bit. But the odds are also very good that you'll be sick as ever again within a month or three. These are all important things to know. If the drugs are working, it's a sign that you do in fact have Lyme; and that drug therapy will probably help. But it's not likely to be anywhere near enough to get you well. As for your other questions: asking what drugs you should use is like asking an e-list for recommendations on what chemotherapy you should self-administer. Because that's what antibiotic treatment with Lyme amounts to -- a long-term form of chemotherapy that uses a combination of several antibiotics together over a period of months or years to kill the disease. Lyme is much harder to get rid of than even stubborn bacteria like tuberculosis or syphilis (its close cousin), because it takes on several different forms in the body to hide from antibiotics. It's definitely not a do-it-yourself effort, though some people have had good results with an herbal protocol called the Buhner protocol. You have to stick with it for several years -- I'm using it now to sustain gains made with antibiotics -- but it's mostly a backup and maintenance plan for people who seriously have no good medical options. I strongly recommend that you read this document in its entirety: The doctors who follow this protocol (or their own versions of it) are known as Lyme-literate doctors (LLMDs). They are rogue doctors who don't accept the conventional wisdom, and they are forced to operate underground -- out of reach of insurance investigators and medical boards -- in order to deliver this controversial treatment. The cure is not cheap, easy, or fast; but many of us (including me, who was disabled for 23 years with undiagnosed Lyme, and am now back to work for the first time in 20 years) have gotten significantly better, if not well, using this treatment. The reasons for the controversy are a story unto themselves. Your local library may have copies of the movie " Under Our Skin, " and the book " Cure Unknown " (along with several other useful Lyme reference books, such as " Healing Lyme, " which is the Buhner book). You owe it to yourself to understand your situation fully, so you can make the best treatment decisions and waste a minimum of time and money in the process. If you want to find an LLMD, tell this list what city or state you live in. Someone will contact you off-list with local recommendations. We don't mention our doctors' names on-list, for reasons that may be obvious now. Sara On Mar 4, 2011, at 9:42 03PM, Karavelatzis wrote: > I have beleive i have had lymes for about a year . Guest guest
you must take probiotics when taking antibiotics........only a good llmd would know what you should take - as it all depends on co-infections also......I think at that dose for three months.......might be good if you just got the tick bite? I do not know - you need to be treated by a llmd........sending prayers to you and sorry you have to deal with this..........I would rather lose a leg or arm then deal with my family fighting this disease!! ________________________________ From: Karavelatzis <michaelkara2000@...> Sent: Mon, March 7, 2011 1:04:42 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Most Effective Treatment Regimen for LYMES!!!  Do any guys self medicate as are not happy with the outcome of your physicians treatment . Guest guest
By the way, my dog was diagnosed with Lyme by my vet, and is on doxycycline. He is a 60 lb. dog, and *he's* on 100 mg. twice a day, which is your dose. I suspect you weigh a bit more than 60 lb.; while not proof, yet another piece of evidence that your dose probably should be higher. Guest guest
Hello, Lyme is not curable if you have been infected for 3 or 4 months! I was infected in 1996 and diagnosed in Sept 2001. Since then I have learned a great deal about Lyme, but not nearly enough .. Garlic is a help! I have been taking 2800 mg of garlic since 2003, but one must start with a much smaller dose as a great Herx can occur!!!!!! A very big Herx can kill a person with Lyme Cat Claw herb is also helpful, either the tab form or the liquid form free of toa, both work. The Rife machine is also good and details can be found about it at _www.Royal_ (http://www.Royal) Rife.com or at _www.Rife_ (http://www.Rife) Labs.com. This machine does not cure Lyme as far as I know but it does blow up Lyme bacteria in one's body. Another weapon against Lyme is L-Glutamine, a powerful form is usually available in powder form and a 3 teaspoon helping mixed with orange juice and water is very powerful and can cause a terrible Herx depending on one's Lyme bacteria lode. Knoxx gelatine is very useful to help what seems to be arthritis, but is Lyme bacteria in one's joints or may be only for some while others may actually have arthritis and might not work. In pretty much all cases one should continue to take mainstream medicine as well as use the above mentioned Lyme weapons. Unfortunately everything costs money. Kyolic garlic may be the best available and ordering from a vitamin company can reduce cost greatly. Good luck with your on going battles! Sidney In a message dated 3/7/2011 3:53:46 P.M.
