Guest guest
> Hello, Well I went for my 6 week check up today and all is good. < Way to go, !! I am like you...would rather swim than be tortured by PT. LOL
Guest guest
Great news ! The only thing, and I don't want to be a nag, is do it! Do the swimming! It took three surgeries for me to realize that when they say excorise, they mean exorcise! I truly believe that it's the excorising and streching that got me from '99 to about a month ago relatively pain free. And the fringe benefit is...I look good! :-) Mike

Guest guest
, Great news, glad to hear you're doing better! I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was a child, thankfully my curve was not very severe so I never had to go thru surgery or wear a brace or anything, hopefully that's the same case for your daugther. It is affecting me a bit now, as you get older the spine can curve more or with back problems it can be more of a problem. Mine is curving slightly more now but still isnt a huge concern luckily. I'd go for the water therapy too if I was you. I'm doing that now as I can't tolerate the regular floor therapy and you can do it w/o any problems (unless some dummy comes along and decides to kick you in the hip ugh lol) Just make sure if you do any arm exercises that your shoulders are underwater, that's a biggie our aqua therapist tells us, if you're above water doing them whats the point of pool therapy, which is true. You can just walk across the pool and that's good exercise, the build yourself up little by little. That's what I'm doing now. We're being a little more careful since we found out I have a buldging disk in my neck now, but it's not stopping me from trying to get a little exercise in my arms and legs. Take it easy and enjoy the water. My only problem is getting out of the pool, once gravity hits it's hell, esp the pain in my low back when I pull myself up the steps using the railing. I'm thankful for water therapy otherwise I'd get no exercise since floor exercising is just too painful for me. Take it easy! Connie Hi > Hello, Well I went for my 6 week check up today and all is good. I took xrays > and the surgeon said the fusion is good. He also gave me a script for therapy > but said if I can swim I didnt have to go to therapy. I mentioned how much i > hate going to PT. Guest guest
Connie..here for a family memebership is 600 and change but its 144 for the first month then 44 each month after that..They said something about finacial aid on the web site but I think my hubby makes too much to be considered.. I am still thinking about it. I jsut dont know once I go back to work will I go as much.. Thank you everyone for thinking about my dad. Hes very nervous and cant beleive that this is happening to him. But all will work out and he will be back to playing golf before he knows it.. Kenny, I am so sorry your in pain. But please try to relax we dont want you to have a breakdown. Wait and see what the doc says on Tues. If something is wrong they will find it in xrays or MRI's.. It could be a really bad muscle tear or sprain. Are you taking any meds right now..Like muscle relaxers or anti inflams?? Hope everyone has a great weekend. Guest guest
, Thanks to reminding me, the YMCA has scholarships available depending on your income. Normally its 100 to join (at least here) then $51 per month, if you fill out the application and attach the required letter with income vs expenses and other info they ask for in the letter, they will review it and send you a letter with their decision. They ask how much you could pay per month and then how much per program. I said $10/mo and $5 per program and they approved mine, again it depends on your income vs expenses and I listed all my income and all my expenses, food, shampoo, etc was all bulked into one. Good luck I hope it works for you if you decide to go that route! Connie ps my daughter went with me Friday (when I got kicked by that other lady-see previous post lol) and she was in the main pool. She was doing dives, side dives, being a goof and loving every minute of it. THAT is priceless Luckily it works out so that there is open swimming in the main pool at the same time I have my therapy so when she's not with her dad for vistation this summer, she can swim in the pool while I'm in pt. Also gonna take her to one of the other 3 pools that are outdoors in the area so she can have some fun in the sun. Finally a life in the summer that I can afford! LOL I love to swim, it's so hard to not do laps in the pool when I'm in therapy, I really need to move to FL so I can enjoy this almost year round. When is wearing a coat and it's 60 out I'll be in the ocean swimming and laughing at her... well till my blood gets thin like hers, then we'll be watching Kaylee in the water while we're bundled up.. LOL Re: Hi > Mike..I am deffinalty going to do something. I am looking it to joining the > YMCA. Guest guest
Hi hope your dad is doing better. This weather has been killer from all the rain we had to a solid heatwave! How far are you from the beach? Maybe you can cool off and forget the electricity. If not how far are you from Long Island, lol. -Nick > Connie where are you?? Guest guest
Hey and all, Yes it has been quiet! I just haven't been on because so much is happening here in my life now. Just waiting for my EMG test to be done so we can talk surgery. It is scheduled for July 23rd. I told them to call me if they had a cancellation at anytime so I can get this moving quicker(tired of being in pain). So they did call me at 910am this morning and wanted me to be there at 930am....hahaha! Still in my pj's,hadn't showered and they are 30 minutes away....so that was a no go. Then my husbands mother just had exploratory surgery last night for a lower bowel obstruction....they pretty much just opened her up and closed her.Found out she is ridden with cancer. So she is in ICU,they have removed the ventalator and have put a tube in to feed her thru her stomach. The prognosis naturally isn't good,so family is coming in from all over so that is keeping me busy. And for those of you who have private emailed me....I will try and get back to you tomorrow,as im just totally exhausted today. hi Hi..Has it been quiet or is it me?? Well things are going good. My back still isnt as strong so I think I am going to call and start therapy..As much as I hate to I must go if I want to get the strenght back in my back.. I am also trying to loose the million pounds I have gained since staying home. So far 2.4 pounds..wheeeewwww hooooo.. I am going back to work Sept 3rd. I just hope that standing on my feet for 7 hours wont be so bad. If so my hubby and I talked about it and if it comes down to me leaving I will. Ok so how is everyone else doing? Guest guest
Hi , Glad you are doing ok. I am still in limbo waiting for surgery. After two neurosurgeons recommended surgery by February of this year the Military health insurance ordered me to go down to Walter Medical Center. After 3 trips down to D.C. it was clear I need surgery. Because of the on going War the first neurosurgeon who was supposed to do the surgery was ordered to Georgia to fill a vacancy. The Senior Neurosurgeon who was going to pick up my case is lecturing in Europe and soon retiring. His replacement was now ordered to Germany for 3 months. Now I am pleading with the insurance to go back to NY for my care out of network because of the unavailability in D.C. and because the Secretary of the Air Force wants me off of orders and a Medical Evaluation Board done. Once this happens I will be medically discharged. This will also hurt my chances of fighting the greivance filed with the Port Authority PBA and get back on the job. Oh well God's will. -Nick > Hi..Has it been quiet or is it me?? > Well things are going good. Guest guest
> Hi..Has it been quiet or is it me?? < Yes ...it has been quiet. Summertime is usually pretty busy and some are dealing with pain issues. Mine has been both. Have had out of state family visit (my daughter and grand-daughter), then my other daughter came to visit and moved in for the next school year, so have been busy turning the extra bedroom into a bedroom (it was my craft and photography room). Then my son was chosen for the military's base baseball All-Stars team, so we have been busy with practices and tournaments. Thank goodness that is over with now. Hubby retiring out of Navy next year after 24 years in, and that is taking our time as we contemplate life after the Navy...where to go, what new career to go into, going to classes that the Navy offers, etc. Still dealing with pain issues after my L4/5 fusion 2 months ago but have noticed that some of the right leg weakness is clearing up. My post-op appt is tomorrow morning so wondering what the doc will say and do. I am hoping that he will approve water aerobics...have heard it is wonderful for people with back problems. And the Yoga at our base gym is based on what each persons limitations are. My hospital discharge orders said " activity as tolerated " so I went bowling, which I love to do. The bowling was fine and I concentrated on not twisting or bending, but it was still to much. Ended up in bed for 3 days with stiffness and pain. <sigh> So I guess playing softball is out of the question? LOL I used to be so active and it was difficult for others to keep up with me...now I am the one yelling out " SLOW DOWN!!! " Good luck on your PT and returning to your job. 7 hrs of standing seem too much for me, but you have until Sept, right? Vivian H.

We took the kids bowling a few weeks ago and I just watched..Maybe after I go back to work I will try..Glad to hear the leg is getting better..It does take time..I still notice if I sit the wrong way my leg will twing and get that funny feeling in it.. Each day is a new day..
