Guest guest
Throwing this out to you for feedback. I have been struggling with depression, antidepressant is not helping much, hair has been falling out to the point I had it cut short, eyes have trouble focusing at times, body temp is low all the time, frequently 95.5 rarely up to 97 degrees. Bloodwork for THS came out in the normal range at 2.9. I have been using a floride toothpaste prescription. I did some reading on thyroid and decided to quit the floride for now to see if that helps. Ordered some suppliments, thyroid help and kelp. Has anyone taken Ashwagandha? I am already taking quite a few suppliments with my two antibiotics and probiotics. What are thoughts on thyroid problems with Lymes?
Guest guest
Upwards of ninety percent of all Lyme patients have thyroid problems. Unfortunately, in most cases, it's " silent thyroid, " which doesn't show up on the usual panels. Your TSH number is actually much too high. A lot of thyroid-literate docs think it should be down around 1. Get the book " Thyroid Power " by Dr. Shames. Check out Shomon's thyroid pages at About.com. And also go to www.stopthethyroidmadness.com as well. A lot of LLMDs are also thyroid-literate, so that's the place to start. The above pages also have lists of doctors who can help you with this. The drug of choice for this is not Synthroid (which is what most docs will give you, and is pure synthetic T4). Silent thyroid is a T3-->T4 conversion problem, and is best treated with natural thyroid like Armour, which is a combination of both forms. Guest guest
I believe thyroid issues are common with Lyme. In the area I live there are only 4 people I know that have it. 3 of them have thyroid issues, the other I don't know well enough to ask. It seems to me that I saw an article written by a dr that was researching the connection between Candida infections and thyroid disease. Since Candida is very common in people with Lyme it makes sense. Unfortunately, (IMHO) Lyme, Candida and Thyroid issues are among the most controversial in medicine. It is as hard to find a Thyroid literate doctor as it is a Lyme literate doctor. Many doctors believe that testing only TSH is a joke. My doctor has said if you have chronic pain issues then TSH shouldn't be used. There is a site, www.stopthethyroidmadness.com which has links to finding a doctor in your area. The author has a book and many articles about it on her site. I do caution you to keep in mind she suffered for decades without treatment and is bitter, sometimes on the verge of rabid about it. There is really good info but sometimes the context has to be filtered. Although, many of us that are dealing with Lyme can relate. gin Alaska On 4/8/2011 6:27 AM, Aline Huey wrote: > > Throwing this out to you for feedback. > I have been struggling with depression, antidepressant is not helping > much, hair has been falling out to the point I had it cut short, eyes > have trouble focusing at times, body temp is low all the time, > frequently 95.5 rarely up to 97 degrees. Guest guest
If you do take synthroid you can add T3 directly, cytomel. Compounded natural formulas have T1, T2, T3, T4....so it is more bio-identical. Each compounding pharmacy has a different formula. Many people have had better luck with naturethroid because Armour changed its formulation. > >> Throwing this out to you for feedback. >> I have been struggling with depression, antidepressant is not helping much, hair has been falling out to the point I had it cut short, eyes have trouble focusing at times, body temp is low all the time, frequently 95.5 rarely up to 97 degrees.
