Guest guest
I got my DHEA from www.pharmwest.com and it is 25mgs tablets. I took one daily. You are not likely to feel any effects for up to 3 months though. Many people don't give it a chance to work because by that time, they feel it is a complete waste of time. It is not, you must be patient. Other people find it working quicker than that, but you should heed the warning. Luv - Sheila Thank you so much for your information on DHEA and your advice. She did have a saliva test the year before last and it came back with with low DHEA indeed as well as low cortisol. When I did mention it to the Endo Doc he did not seem too bothered by it, but he said try it if you want although he didn't think it meant much. However, having read what you have written I will send off for DHEA supplement. Any ideas where I can get this from and what dose would be needed? No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
Hi Vickyanne, Your poor daughter - it sounds like she's really going through it. Dr P is probably best placed to advise on DHEA dosing if the endo won't recommend a dose. My doctor started me on 5mg and then after a month or so I went up to 7.5mg and I'm now on 10mg. I've read about other women taking higher doses like 25mg and 50mg, but we decided to go cautiously as DHEA lowers levels of cortisol. It might take some tuning to get a good balance. DHEA has an antagonistic relationship to cortisol so it makes you feel like you are on a lower dose of cortisol when you take DHEA. Signs of overtreatment of DHEA include greasy hair and greasy skin, some people get on with it while others don't like it. You might be able to get DHEA prescribed by your GP, as your daughter has proven adrenal problems. Some people on the 's Self-Help group get DHEA prescribed by their GP/endo. Also it might be worth pushing your GP/endo for a DHEA-S blood test (they should be allowed to order the test!!) as it's good to monitor levels - also of other sex hormones like oestrogen and testosterone - to see how the DHEA is converting. If you can't get it on the NHS, you can buy DHEA in the UK from Biovea - http://www.biovea.net/%28S%281qphvf45kifvdh55jakbox45%29%29/category_dispatch.as\ px?CID=6 or iherb in the states might be cheaper - but if you want to avoid the customs charge then it's better to keep the total bill below £18. Take care Lou > > Hi Lou >  > Thank you so much for your information on DHEA and your advice. She did have a saliva test the year before last and it came back with with low DHEA indeed as well as low cortisol. When I did mention it to the Endo Doc he did not seem too bothered by it, but he said try it if you want although he didn't think it meant much. Guest guest
Hi, My daughter had purple strechmarks on her belly and thighs from taking Prednisolone (a type of Cortisone) I am thinking is it a side effect, or maybe she was taking too much. They were awful; but do seem to have gone now that she has come off them. Guest guest
There may be a great improvement if doses of prednisolone are split into four per day, remembering too that its strength is rated at at least four times that of hydrocortisone. Guest guest
Hi Ali Many thanks for your reply. I am glad that your Daughter's stretch marks have cleared up. I must admit that it was only when my Daughter took the Prednisolone that these marks appeared, and yes I think it was because her body didn't need so much. She is currently taking hydrocortisone at the moment, low dose of 15mg with a view to stopping altogether. Again thank you for your reply. Guest guest
Hi Hans Thank you for your reply it was good of you to take the time. My Daughter has now changed back to hydrocortisone because it was only when she changed to prednisolone that the marks appeared. Thanks again. Guest guest
Hi, On the PIL of prednisone it states that if taken every other ay instead of every day this reduces unwanted side effects and still gives the therapeutic effect.Pdrenisone is much more long lasting in the body that hydrocoortisone hence there is no need for split doses. > thyroid treatment > From: hneeser@...> Date: Sun, 21 Feb 2010 17:17:24 +0000> Subject: Re: HYDROCORTISONE> > There may be a great improvement if doses of prednisolone are split into four per day, remembering too that its strength is rated at at least four times that of hydrocortisone.> > Hans> > > > > Hi,> > My daughter had purple strechmarks on her belly and thighs from taking Prednisolone (a type of Cortisone) I am thinking is it a side effect, or maybe she was taking too much ... Guest guest
Hi Many thanks for that piece of information. I didn't realise you could do this. The Consultant Endo Doc certainly never told my Daughter. I don't suppose this could be done with hydrocortison could it? Guest guest
Hi all, Just curious if anyone has been precribed HC and had to go off? What kind of taper schedule is best? I have been on 15 mg daily for four months because of low adrenal function due to lyme and cos.My cortisol is now high and I need to reduce what I supplement. My plan is to reduce by 2.5 mg a week. If anyone has any input I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Guest guest
Thank you Sheila, yes my daughter is already on Siberian ginseng,Vit C 5000mg and tincture of liquorice (and everything else) so it was just the Nutri Adrenal Extra that I wondered should she cut down a bit whilst on cortisone and if so how much?
