Guest guest
Gretchen - my question arose from the fact that when I had my parasite a few years ago, babesiosis, they gave me antibiotics AND Mepron, and I was led to believe that it served primarily as an anti parasitic, anti malarial. Guest guest
Gee, I thought I was the Lone Ranger on Mepron but that is one of the great things about this list. I finished 6 FCR rounds 2 months ago, am allergic to bactrim, and have been on Mepron since the beginning of treatment. Mepron has a side effect for me which involves a lot of phlegm and coughing. Keeps me from ever having a full night's sleep. While this is a lot better than getting one of the things that Mepron protects against, does anyone out there also have this problem? Any ideas on dealing with it other than the myriad cough remedies in the drug store. Chuck Knull
Guest guest
I am getting over a 4th relapse of bronchitus and one of my doctors recommended "Fishermen's Friend" cough drops. They have a very strong taste but they seem to calm the cough. Also Zyrtec D helps take it 2 times a day. We found the real 'Hotel California' and the 'Seinfeld' diner. What will you find? Guest guest
Chuck: I also finished 6 FCR rounds 9 wks ago, am allergic to Bactrim and is on Mepron. Luckily, I do not have any respiratory symtoms - only body itching and muscle pain - which may be due to FCR. I am sure you are going to get some great suggestions thru' this wonderful group. Guest guest
I'm just finishing my 3rd round of Mepron, three weeks on and one week off, 1 tsp. twice daily with fatty food for absorption. I take it with 250 mg Azithromycin to prevent resistance to it. I did take three months of Artemesian prior to the Mepron. As for my Mepron Herxes, everyone is different, depending on your stage of treatment and your symptoms. My first round of Mepron and second round I had alot of pain everywhere, but it has greatly diminished with each round. Woke up with a high fever one morning. Common side effects of Mepron are Candida,(mine increased, so I recommend if your susceptible to yeast to have doc order Nystatin, Diflucan or Sacchromyces Boulardi. I take all three. The Saccromyces you may get from a health food store. I get mine from my doc office. It is refrigerated. I take two at bedtime. Other side effects that are common are: headache, insomnia, fever, pain, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, rash, cough and sweating. Many of these are the symptoms we are trying to treat. So maybe these side effects are truly herx reactions and not really side effects. I really didn't think it was too bad. I had some rough days, but it cerrtainly wasn't every day. I was focused on treating my head pressure/pain which is in both of my ears and migrates other places on my head but really likes the nerve or something by my ears. I have really noticed a much bigger difference in diminished symptoms with this third round. I plan to do at least 4 rounds total. babesia resides in your red blood cells and the life of a fed blood cell is four months, therefore I feel it is important to treat at least this long for irradication. I've questioned and researched many LLMD's on the lengh oftime to treat for this and all have said 4-6 months and MAYBE longer. Also, it doesn't taste as bad as it looks. I've had so many things that were much worse. You should periodically have your Ferritin levels checked as well as your liver enzymes. It is suggested your Ferritin levels be at least 45. These are your iron stores. Your body needs to replace as it destroys. Best of luck to you, I really don't think it's so bad, for me anyway. Did anyone have a horrible experience on Mepron on the board?
