Guest guest
Sara, What oral antibiotics were you on? Thanks, Carole [ ] please comment on my son's results  So I had my 2.5 year old tested even though he is not really showing any symptoms just because I am a neurotic mommy who doesn't really know how long she has had Lyme. I did nurse him for 2 years prior to knowing what I had so I had a constant worry. His Igenex results were IGM WB Negative with no bands positive. IGG WB positive with 30++, 39+, 41+++, 58+ We are in TX and my LLMD does not treat kids, so I am sort on my own here. With no symptoms (that I am aware of) at this time what you you guys do? I am freaking out. Thank you.
Guest guest
The temptation is to say: All of 'em. Which is probably true, at one time or another. My LLMD follows Burrascano's recommendation to hit all three forms of Lyme simultaneously with different abx targeted to each form. Which means that I was taking at least three abx at any given time -- often more than that, since some work better in combos (Zithromax/Plaquenil is a common one for L-forms, for example). Practically, this meant I was on either Amoxicillin (until I developed a reaction to it) or a Cipro-family antibotic (ceftin and a couple others along the way) for the spirochete. For the L-form, we tried Clarithromycin for as long as I could stand it, and then ended up mostly using Zithromax, which isn't at good but it's what I could handle. For the cysts, I was on Flagyl for most of the first year, and also Diflucan all the way through (which also helped control the candida overgrowth caused by all the antibiotics). I ended up on a cycle -- about 4-5 months on one drug combo, at which point my body finally had enough. I'd take month-long drug holiday, then start with a different combo. We went through this about four times. The big downside is that in my case, " having enough " meant that my gall bladder simply couldn't take the load. I ended up having it out last December, exactly six months after ending therapy -- I'd just burned the poor thing out.
