Guest guest
Hi , I had a PICC for 7 months and did Rocephin for 4 months. I am a nurse, but it can managed by yourself without any medical backround. You will learn the SASH method, which is inject saline, then antibiotic, then saline again, then Heparin to prevent the line for clotting. Wash your hands well before all infusions and monitor the insertion site for any signs and symptoms of infection. Dressing is changed once per week, a nhome care nurse can do this or can teach someone in your house hold to do it. They can draw your labs from your PICC too (no needle sticks) it just needs to be flushed really well after the draw to prevent it from clotting. If the Rocephin doesn't work for you and you notice no changes after 12 weeks I would suggest asking your doc to try Clindamycin. I never did the clindamycin but heard it has helped alot of people. There are other choices of antibiotics too. Just don't have your line removed until you know it's time and your symptoms have greatly diminished, especially gut issues and cognitive/neuro. issues. It's really a piece of cake, after a while you won't even know it's there. Oh, I used press and seal from the grocery store to wrap around my PICC to take a shower the arm bags they give you cover your hand and cut off your circulation. The press and seal (found by the aluminum foil in a roll) works wonders. I even went in a dry sauna three times weekly to detox. Just don't ever go in a wet sauna. Best of luck to you and let us know how things are going for you. My husband and son also have Lyme, waiting for the results of my oldest son from Igenex he was the only one without noted symptoms.
