Guest guest
Hi! I've greatly enjoyed all the depression discussion recently. I love 5HTP! It works great for me! I was on 40 mg of Prozac for a year and half and now control my mood with 100-200 mg of 5HTP per day! My husband recently was prescribed Prozac, which isn't working for him. I am interested the other two supplements listed in the discussion, glutamine and tyrosine. What exactly do they do? And what dosage would you all recommend? --commited to better health (I find typing this helps me remember it!)
Guest guest
Can you take 5 HTP, glutamine and tyrosine, all at the same time? I think someone here said they were taking these all, but I'm not sure. in CA
Guest guest
The glutamine contols carb and sugar cravings, and you can take 1,000 to 2000 mg daily. The tyrosine also helps the brains neurotransmitter function properly, which will help with the depression, endorphins, etc. I would say 1,000 to 2,000 daily also. The reason for the high dosage is because 5-htp is the next level of tryptophan, which you would be taking 1,000 to 2,000 of daily also to get the same effects. The benefit of the 5-htp is that it doesn't need the assistance of the b vitamins and other converters to become 5-htp. It is already converted, thus, 10X as strong as the tryptophan. > Hi! > > I've greatly enjoyed all the depression discussion recently. I love > 5HTP! It works great for me! Guest guest
yes, that and more. They are all amino acids, which are body uses protein to create internally for us. lack of protein, lack of aminos. There are 20+ amino's that the body needs to function correctly. > Can you take 5 HTP, glutamine and tyrosine, all at the same time? Guest guest
I am going to start the 5 HTP tonight. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to kick in? Is it one of thoes things that has to build up in your system or does it (hopefully) start to work right away? Also, did it upset anyone's stomach? Or any other side effects? Thanks. You are supposed to take it an hour before you eat, so your seratonin will be balanced by the time you eat. When I did it that way, my stomach was so upset by dinner time, that I could not eat. so I just take it after I eat, and feel great! Guest guest
Hi Lynne, I slept better right away, and the depression lift was really subtle, but I felt that in 3-4 days. I was taking more than the 100 mg dosages. The first few nights I was taking between 200 and 400 mg, to help me sleep and build my amino's. The side effect of the lifting depression was great, and that's when I started researching it for that. > I am going to start the 5 HTP tonight. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to kick in? Guest guest
, Try a health food store, or you could probably purchase it online and get it delivered. > Hi where can i buy 5 HTP im in Australia :>) > > Kind Regards > Re: Depression supplements > > > For me, it took less than 24 hours to start kicking in. > > Mic > > > > I am going to start the 5 HTP tonight. Guest guest
Hi , It's been a couple days and, it's weird, I still feel like crying but I'm not able to. Does that make sense? Guest guest
Hi Lynne, It does make some sense because people with depression have " large " forts built and we don't like to lose them. Sometimes, we also need the control or the consistency of the feelings. If you are taking more than 200 mg, back off to only 100 mg at night ONLY for a couple of days and see if that helps. Amino's usually do better on an empty stomach, but, as in the case of Hanida, try taking it with dinner or some food and see if that helps. If you keep having other problems that you don't want to post, please email me any time at vanderkc@... or give me a phone call and we'll try to determine if there is another issue that is adding to the problems. Stay strong girl! Usuallly, I only want to cry when I know I'm close to the answer and I may not want to go through with the answer. Call me anytime and we'll make sure you(we) get through this! > >> I am going to start the 5 HTP tonight. Can anyone tell me how long > >it takes to kick in? Guest guest
I got a book by Holford called 'Natural Highs' - in this book he says that SAMe is very expensive! There is also a cheaper alternative to SAMe, but I'll need to look this up. If anyone is interested in knowing more about the depression supplements recommended by Holford, let me know and I'll post some stuff! Guest guest
Is the SAM-e working for you? Do you have a Costco or SAMS club where you live? I read that SAM-e is cheapest there. I pretty sure you can purchase 5-htp online... the same is true for SAM-e. Try searching under enteric-coated SAM-e.. and Solgar is supposed to be a good brand. That's all I know... I'm sorry for the expense. It sure does drain us, doesn't it? Guest guest
, Did you try online at vitacost.com? Or another site? I'm not sure which would ship to Australia but I'm sure that some must because I've gotten some of my things from overseas. > Hi Dose Sam-e Work Well for depression ? > I was going to get 5-HTP but found all the natual shops dont sell it and when i ask them they have never heard of it maybe cause i live in Western Australia hehe. > > Best regards > Re: Depression supplements > > > > > hello michell yes I am lookin for alternative to depression yes now I take Sam-e and yes it is expensive so if you have anything cheaper and it works let me know thanks alot debbie from pgh > > _______________________________________________ > Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com > The most personalized portal on the Web! > > >
Guest guest
TMG (trimethylglycine) is an alternative to SAMe. It works in the same way as SAMe, is natural and safe, and your body uses the TMG to produce its own SAMe. From Holford's book, 'Natural Highs': " The body can make SAMe directly from TMG, which is both stable and much less expensive. While it has not been as extensively researched as SAMe, the fact that it is a direct precursor of SAMe would predict that its effect would be very similar. " " Extracted from sugar beet, TMG is also found in brocolli and spinach. " " Optimal doses needed to raise SAMe are 1000 to 3000mg per day " . There's a lot of text on natural mood enhancers in this book, too much for me to type out, but I'll see if I can copy and paste something from the internet. Guest guest
For more info on TMG and other " blues busters " , visit Holford's website: http://www.naturallyhigh.co.uk Click on the section about lifting your mood and the exact text from the book is reproduced there!
