Guest guest
Thanks, Sondra. I don't think I'm gonna put my son on this diet. I'm considering cutting back his dairy and cutting WAY back on the junk foods, but I don't think I really need to do this diet with him. He has PDD-NOS, but most people can't even tell anymore. He's had 2 years of special preschool and is doing so well now that he's going into a regular kindergarten this fall. There are problems of course like small motor skills, speech, etc. but they are pretty slight. The biggest problem I have with him is that he eats almost nothing but carbs. -------------------------------------------------------------- You mentioned your son who's on the autism spectrum and wondered if it would be good for him too. I have a son who is on the spectrum and has been on this diet for about 2 months or so. I think it depends on more than just whether or not he has autism but rather what his problems with that condition are. For example, my son has had diarrhea for 3 years, been on numerous antibiotics and tested extremely high for yeast & bacteria. These were good reasons to put him on the diet (as well as the GFCF diet) but if your son doesn't have yeast problems, maybe the GFCF diet alone would help. Cutting out sugars, dyes, etc. can be good for our kids but on this diet they can also lose some of the nutrients they need, so it's best to either test him for this (such as a organic acids test) or talk to a DAN dr. (or well-educated Dr. in autism) about doing this diet and get your son some good vitamins and supplements. It's a big step to do this diet with young kids and fairly hard, so although I think it's helped my son A LOT, I would look into it first so you know he needs it. It's tough to go through the die-off also and that scares a lot of parents and they quit before their child gets better. Anyway, I'm not an expert but it really depends on specifics for your child which you didn't mention. You may want to tell us more about him and/or post on the autism boards such as GFCFdiet, GFCFKids, and Autismdiet. Let me know if I can help you find any information or look into it further. -Sondra
Guest guest
I & #39;m new to the group as well. I have a daughter who & #39;s turning two. Id doc thinks it & #39;s and she started taking cimetidine last week. She is scheduled to get her fever in two days, but I & #39;m praying for a cimetidine miracle! I & #39;ll keep you posted. If it doesn & #39;t happen, doc has also prescribed prednisolone (is that the same as prednisone?). Are the side effects bad? I & #39;ve been scared about giving her steroids. One more ?...how much should I insist on genetic tests? Is it very invasive? After me talking with my mom, she is almost positive my sister had this (she had a t & a when she was 3) and the fevers went away. But, my sister was told a few years ago that her liver had some enzyme issue. What if she actually had fmf (my father is iranian)? My daughter used to only have fever, but the last 4 months she & #39;s also had what seems like abdominal and joint pain, itchy eyes, peculiar behavior, etc. Hopefully it & #39;s . Sorry, one more question. Has anyone found that a change in diet helps reduce the # of episodes? Is there a correlation with calcium intake? Sorry to bombard everyone with all these questions, but your experience is far more helpful than anything a doctor might say thanks.
