Guest guest
I've had candida since at least 1993, if not most of my life (I'm 37). I was diagnosed with yeast allergy by my allergist in 1997. I've been slowly improving and refining my diet, but I still can't keep this under control with the diet alone. I did Yeast Fighters for a while with pretty good results, but I've had my best results with diflucan (prescribed by my allergist) when things got pretty bad. My doctor is a great allergist, but her candida solution is to simply follow the diet. I'd like to find a new doctor and get a little more aggressive in the treatment. If you life in the SF bay area - I'd love a recommendation. I live in Los Altos, CA. Here are a couple a random questions I've had: I just started with Primal Defense. I find that when I take more than one, I can get a little stuffy. I wonder if I'm allergic to the wheat grass (I have grass allergy) or if this is a normal die-off thing? Anyone else have this problem? Any athletes out there with candida? I run and do triathlons and would I love some tips on sports drinks and power bars that are low in sugar and don't have sucralose or aspertane (geez, that stuff is worse than sugar). I'm having a really hard time losing energy after runs. I've been drinking plain water or Emergen-C and sometimes regular sports drinks mixed with acidopholus. My resting heart rate can be from 5-15 points higher if I'm having candida problems. That's the main reason I want to get aggressive and fight this down. Has anyone tried moducare? It's supposed to be an immune system enhancer. The coating on my tongue and my resting heart rate seem to be a pretty good heuristic for the level of candida. Or are these un-reliable indicators? Guest guest
Pete, there's tons of natural stuff out there, some of it probably better than the drugs. You can do this yourself---you don't really need a doctor except to prescribe the diflucan, nystatin, and nizoral (a really strong pharmaceutical). Trouble is they can all damage your liver---bet she didn't tell you that. There's GSE, Grapefruit Seed Extract, powdered Black Walnut hulls, Oregano Oil products, Olive Leaf extract, Garlic in pills or any form, Flaxseed oil gelcaps, Caprycin is really dynamite and on and on. You should do some aggressive surfing and searching online too. Tomorrow I will send you some websites to check out. Have you read The Yeast Connection by Dr Crook---it's a well-known Bible and he has a web site too. My problem is not the products, except affording them sometimes----it's the diet. I'm a vegetarian. I think it must be a bit easier for meat eaters. Diane in Barstow.
