Questions And Answers More On Thyroid -Anne writes: I have read your report on hypothyroidism and was very interested in your findings. My question is this: I was diagnosed with this complaint a couple of months ago and was immediately given Synthroid, firstly 100 then raised to 112. The doctor then informed me I was at normal levels and fine. I have been still suffering from tiredness, I have been on a strict diet for almost 3 weeks and I'm not losing weight, my skin is still dry and my voice gets hoarse by the end of the day, although my nails and hair are growing very well. My thyroid test results are: Free T4 1.3 ref range 0.5-2.0 UG/DL TSH 0.6 ref range 0.3-5.0 uIU/ML I immediately noticed that I haven't had all three tests. I'm female, aged 33 and currently weigh 245 lbs after gaining 50 lbs in weight, I would REALLY appreciate your ideas and/or someone you could recommend me to. I await your response and look forward to hearing from you. Warmest Regards DM COMMENT: You did not obtain a Free T3, which is very important to the proper evaluation. Normally Synthroid (T4) does not convert to T3 in most people. I suspect that is an issue with you also. The other concern is that it is likely that your adrenals are not working properly. So one needs to follow a no sugar, no milk, no grain, no juice diet (see my home page www.mercola.com Read This First tab). I find many people think that they are following an appropriate diet, but in fact are thoroughly confused about what is optimal. It is the rare new patient I see how really understands how to eat optimally. You should rigidly follow the diet guidelines at www.mercola.com under Read This First. After the diet, getting to bed before 10 PM and having a method of addressing stress are critical. If those steps are followed, the next step would be to have your adrenals evaluated by someone who works with BioHealth Diagnostics 800-570-2000. Personal Consultations With Dr. Mercola The most important step you could take for improving your physical health would be to go to Dr. Mercola's web site at www.mercola.com and apply the recommendations under the tab on the left entitled, " Read This First. " That is the essential first step. If your health problems are not better and you are unable to find a physician to implement Dr. Mercola's recommendations, he accepts new patients who are willing to make the dietary changes necessary to reverse chronic illness. He sees many patients from out of state and his staff can coordinate a visit for you. Dr. Mercola will also be doing phone consultations for the last two weeks in January. To schedule one for yourself, you may call or , the new patient coordinators, at 847-985-1777.
