Guest guest
Hi Bee, I'll write an update in another post, but let it suffice to say that I'm doing very well and would like to fine tune my diet. I did the food ratio calculations and went to FitDay to see what I would need to eat and in what proportions in order to follow the Optimal Diet. After calculating it, I'm not sure what to think, and I need your help. Here's what a typical food day would look like. Breakfast 3 scrambled eggs with 1/4 cup each of onion and tomato (I didn't measure the chili that I eat) Lunch 1/4 of diced chicken breast 2 cups green beans with 2 tbs butter Dinner 1/2 cup diced beef 1.5 cups green beans with 2 tbs butter In addition, I would need to add 9.5 tbs of coconut or other oil to be able to get the fat proportions right. I also wouldn't be able to have the lime drink (don't have lemons here), because 3 limes a day throw my carbs off. Does this seem right? It seems like a very small amount of food, and without the egg drink, which sends my protein ratio out of balance, I don't know how I'd ever get that much coconut oil down. Help! I'm so happy to hear that. Are you changing the amounts of foods and then clicking Refreshing Nutrients? I only got 1 gram of protein in 1/4 cup of onions, and none in tomatoes. ==>Also did you add cod liver oil as a fat? I did a rough calculation of the ratios you ate above and came up with 60 grams of protein; 107 grams of fat and 47 grams of carbs (including 2 tablespoons of cod liver oil which I got from my bottle). ==>I don't know your height but 5'6 " tall ratios would be: 68 grams of protein; 169-237 grams of fat (low to high) and 54 grams of carbs. Coconut oil is 14 grams of fat per tablespoon, so 4-5 tablespoons per day would be adequate to fall within the range of fats recommended. ==>Can you send me your fitday calculations and your height? Please send it to beewilder@ shaw.ca (no spaces). Bee

While we are on the subject, I wanted to mention that I journal my food, weight and thoughts daily on fitday (since february 9th). I'm down 63 pounds and feeling great! In case anyone is interested and things it might give them ideas, here is the link: http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJournals.html?Owner=debbypadilla & Year=2006 & Mo\ nth=2 & Day=11 I eat pretty much the same things all the time so it might not be that interesting. That's a big accomplishment. So much of how we feel has to do with our body. My yoga teacher keeps telling us that our real age is the age that our spinal column has. I'm working on flexibility! > I eat pretty much the same things all the time so it > might not be that interesting. Thanks for sharing your journal. I eat the same things all the time as well. It makes food preparation a lot easier. A while ago someone here said that they felt like their life was being taken over by food. I know EXACTLY how they feel, and eating the same things a lot is one way to deal with it. Right now I'm working on strength and endurance, as I do regular cardio and strength training. Gotta add flexibility in too. > Thanks for sharing your journal. You can cook in batches, buy your groceries in bulk, and you have a good idea of the nutritional value of the foods you are eating after a while. Guest guest
Debby, I applaud you on your weight loss. I know only too well what a struggle it is...though now that I am on Bee's program I am finally losing as well. I do have a question for you though. I was looking at your journal and wondering how you are calculating your fat-protein-carb ratios? They seem out of whack with the candida diet. I mean no offense here...just curious and confused. I'm still pretty new at this so maybe I'm doing something wrong. I share my journal to open myself for critique from experts, as well as questions and to share my experience and information. I'm not sure what part of my ratio is off to you? I know that my protein levels were a bit higher than I wanted (I hadn't realized they were so high), so lately I've been working on cutting those levels down. I was doing about 250 grams of protein a day, and now I'm down to about 180. My goal is to do 150 per day, but I am baby stepping there. I do a lot of cardio and strength training too, and am naturally very muscular, so I feel that somewhat higher levels of protein are right for me. I also tend to have a high level of lean body mass to support my higher weight (weight bearing muscle). My fat ratios are good, and as I drop weight I will gradually lower my calories (I aim for 8-10 calories per pound of body weight). As I am dropping my protein ratios, I am increasing my fat. My carbs tend to run 30-60 a day, with all carbs coming from veggie sources. All the veggies I eat are either very low carb (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage) and high fiber, or the higher carb veggies are specific for fighting candida, like onions and garlic which tend to have higher carbs, but the antifungal properties make up for it. Hope this helps, and if anyone sees I am making a mistake please let me know.
