Guest guest
Hi Athie, I read your post and my daughter (Jodi) is going to see her Hepatologist tomorrow in Miami. I will ask him about Interferon, if it has less side effects than Prednisone I would be all for that. Thanks, Genny/Jodi's Mom/AIH
Guest guest
Genny, Thanks for asking for me. It just doesn't sound right to me but I have a good doctor and feel he knows what he is talking about. Thanks again, Athie Re: [ ] Athie > Hi Athie, I read your post and my daughter (Jodi) is going to see her > Hepatologist tomorrow in Miami. Guest guest
Hi Athie, have you asked your dentist to numb you up for cleaning? I know no one likes needles but if your teeth are that sensitive it would help a lot. Several of our pts do this but if you don't want to be numbed there is a gel that can be applied that will help some. Cleaning are very important not only to keep your teeth but in your case you want to keep the bacteria down in your mouth as much as possible. A dental check up is one of the first things that has to be done to be put on the transplant list. They want to get rid of any infection that might be present. Also the dentist can give you a prescription for fluoride that you can apply each night for sensitive teeth. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hello, The last time I went she put gel on that helped a bit. When you say numb what do you mean? I really don't mind the needles and wonder how many shots does it take? Thanks Athie Re: [ ] Athie > Hi Athie, have you asked your dentist to numb you up for cleaning? Guest guest
Genny ..... when I was evaluated for transplant ( 3 days @ the Cleveland Clinic) I wasn`t given a dental exam. Of course I was very ill with end stage cirrhosis and was on anti-bacs. as a prophalaxis so maybe it didn`t matter. I was on the list for 81/2 mos. but had blood tests weekly and endoscopies and sclerotherapy every 3-4 weeks. Was also hospitalized a couple of times. They didn`t move me to the top until my tests became critical. they took you according to who was most critical. FYI the criteria for transplant is only same blood type and same general size . love and serenity jerry
Guest guest
When I say numb I mean put a needle in your gums so you won't feel it. Like when you have a filling done. Don't know how many injections it would take, I would only want to do the teeth that it really bothers to be cleaned. When they do root scaling most people are numbed because they have to go deep to get all the tarter off. Hope this answers your question. Take care and God bless, Genny/Jodi's Mom

Guest guest
Well, each case is different but I have seen many people who can't wear dentures. Most people do pretty good with an upper but the lower is a lot harder. For me, I plan to take mine with me. Don't want any store bought ones.
