Guest guest
Joan, I hope no one though I was putting people down because they have a drinking problem that results in cirrhosis. My point and I believe 's also was not every one that has cirrhosis has a drinking problem, which is the thinking of most people. I know from someone very close to me alcohol is a sickness just like any other. What really ticks me off is he is aware of the problem but will not get help. Here Jodi is and may need a liver sooner than later and he is destroying his. I would support him in any way I could if he was willing to take that first step. Jerry if you are reading this please give me some advise on this subject. Was your liver problem what made you make a change? I try very hard to understand because I am far from perfect. God bless and take care. Genny/Jodi's Mom/AIH
Guest guest
Genny.... There is absolutely nothing you can do except don`t enable him. He has to suffer enough consequences to make himself seek help. Hopefully before he dies. I sought treatment, finally, before I learned I had end stage cirrhosis and the fact that I had found a way to stay sober enabled me to accept my diagnosis.... I was serene in the fact ,that at least I was going to die sober. God has been extremely good to me. I know, as all of us here do, that alcohol causes only 40% or less of liver diseases (or maybe less than that--someone know?) But people in general are ignorant to all kinds of diseases. It`s a shame we have to stereotype evrything. all people with drinking problems are not alcohlic. Nor does every alcholic die from cirrhosis even if they drank heavily all thier lfe. Not every alcoholic ends up under a bridge with a paper bag of wine---- in fact very few of them do.You can`t judge someone by his looks or station in life. Some people drink heavily all thier life but manage to life well and quite successfully. Movies and such have played a great disservce to those of us who have this disease----- just as those who make assumptions about any of us who have cirrhosis. One can be assured that places like the Cleveland clinic are very particular in thier screening process and would not transplant a liver to one who wasn`t as good a risk as the next. Livers are supposed to go to those who need them the most . NO I didn`t sober up because of my liver. In fact it was ironic and amusing to me that I had found a way out only be told that I had but a little time to live... in fact , at 1st transplant wasn`t even mentioned, and I didn`t even think it was an option in my case. I pray that Jodi will receive God`s grace and I know that all things will be alright. Please care for yourself as well..I am wishing you..... love and sernity jerry Joan, I hope no one though I was putting people down because they have a drinking problem that results in cirrhosis.
