Guest guest
Debra, that was me that said my Mom has ITP. I can't say for sure but I think it was about three months ago. Her primary doctor found her platelets were very low while doing blood work up on her thyroid. He referred her to an Oncologist and he put her on a very high dosage of Prednisone. My mother is a very thin person and we were hoping she would gain weight but the opposite happened. She could not sit still and was having a hard time sleeping. Her platelets went up to 200,000 so her doctor started decreasing the drug. When she was completely off the depression hit hard. She just turned 65 and wouldn't even let us do anything for her birthday. My stepfather has just retired and they were hoping to start doing some traveling but she was at the doctor so much they couldn't. Her primary gave her something for the depression but it seem to make it worse. I was so worried about her because she told me she didn't have anything to live for. Well, they did get to make a trip for a week and she came back feeling better, she had stopped taking the antidepressant. Went back to the doctor and her platelets were dropping. They have been 75,000 for the last three weeks so her Oncologist says he will not put her back on the Prednisone at this point. Even though she was a live wire when on it she was like the mother I used to know when I was growing up. Wanted to do things again and wanted her family around a lot more. I know she has been very worried about Jodi but I am worried about them both now. How old is your son and how did they find out he as ITP. As with AIH the doctors don't know much about it. They tell us my Mom and Jodi getting an autoimmune illness in the same year has nothing to do with each other. Seems very strange to me. Thank you for any information you can give me.
