Your children may be intitled to some of those benefits . Check into it.

There are programs.

I applied today with the Child Support Enforcement Bureau. They will hunt

his butt down if they can, and garnish his wages when he does work etc....

Confiscate his tax refund also.

But they won't pay me anything. They have to get it from him. Because of my

husbands income (not the BIO dad) we don't qualify for foodstamps, medicaid

or ANYTHING, not even government cheese (LOL)!

Thanks for the info though.... got me rolling on the Child Support

Enforcement Bureau. My ex is a big time. alcoholic, drug addict, gambler,

sex addict etc..... When he does work, its brief till his next binge. This

last episode ended him up in another charity hospital in New Orleans, 6

weeks of substance abuse rehab (40th admission) then he gets sprung. I've

been patient for 3 years with no child support hoping he would pull it

together. But with my sons much needed braces, I'm no longer waiting and

besides if he gets thrown in jail then so be it........ at least he will be

sober.

Thanks, Jen

Jen,

I am sorry you can't get help. I was hoping for your sake that every state

worked like Colorado. You can't work correct? You are divorced correct? I can

not understand how they can refuse you. You are not getting any money from

anywhere just doesn't compute. You have a child to care for.

Hi Gayle, I am remarried and my husband makes to much money to qualify for

any state assistance like foodstamps, medicaid or SSI.

I stopped getting child support about 3 years ago, but let it go without

persuit because I was working also, making more then my husband prior to my

diagnosis.

I currenty work, just qualified for SSDI because of my work history (earned

enough quarters), and I make the max income I can without losing my

benefits, I have private health ins (HMO/CIGNA) and dental.

So....yes we are getting money. Just that losing mine was hard. So the loss

of that income hit us hard. My SSDI benefits don't begin till January 2001

but my son will also be receiving benefits.

It was the need for 5k to cover braces for my son that made me decide to

finally persue child support. My Diagnosis has also got me considering

having his bio dad's parental rights terminated so that my current husband

could adopt him thus if anything happens to me my son will have a relaible

parent to care for him. I would give up my right to child support then but

it may be well worth it in the long run.

Thanks for the conern, Jen

Jen,

I wish you well. I am glad you did get SSDI. Hard to work when you are sick.

To bad the ex is so aloof. How can they justify walking away from

responsibilities? As long as you are happy now.
