Guest guest
Cha Ya is a great vegan japanese restaurant with lots of GF options, and then there's always Cafe Gratitude. They're right down the street from each other if you want to stop by each and check out the menus. On Aug 3, 2008, at 12:53 PM, Beatrice Garth wrote:I am planning to spend the day in Berkeley on Friday the 8th and then dinner there with a friend. Please let me know ASAP if possible so we can make plans...Bea ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^me: Stiavettimail: steph@...eats: http://www.wasabimon.com
Guest guest
Really - Cha Ya? Tell more about your experience there -- I asked once and they were clueless and I think they use soy sauce in many dishes. Cafe gratitude is mostly gf if you don't mind raw food. I haven't tried it yet but the indian place at shattuck and Vine might work. I have eaten at chez panisse cafe and they were accomodating. Also I have eaten at thai place Cha Am at Cedar and they were able to accomodate. There is also a south american (de la paz maybe?) place I think upstairs near there that looks like it might have some gf but I haven't tried it yet. -Luther On 8/3/08, J. Guest guest
I should have mentioned Japanese food doesn't usually work for me. I am strongly allergic to sesame. I have no problem at all eating meat and actually would prefer it. Thai or Cambodian food would be great. GF Fish or meat with potatoes or yams would also be great. Lots of veggies yes but usually vegetarian is a no. I am so very allergic to nuts and most seeds though sunflower seeds are fine. Plus even ground up non gf flours cause me trouble with candida overgrowth. Plus I can't eat cheese. Cornmeal and dried beans don't agree very well either...though I can eat them if I have to; I just get some swelling and candida overgrowth after. Vinegar is a no too due to the candida.Sugar anything is out. I am now wondering about tomatoes since starting a Paleo (no grain) diet with no or limited fruit.Am I crazy to even think of eating out? It will be my birthday and a potential boyfriend wants to be generous... However I don't want to sacrifice my health for his feelings. If necessary I will suggest a picnic with tea after. There is bound to be a park nearby. BeaI am planning to spend the day in Berkeley on Friday the 8th and then dinner there with a friend. Guest guest
Thanks Luther--the Cha Am Thai restaurant sounds good. Looks like I won't have to have a picnic after all... I will call ahead and make sure they use gluten free soy and oyster sauce etc. or bring my own. Guest guest
By the way, how do you know if Cha Am actually has gluten free food free of all cross conamination? I am particularly sensitive to trace amounts of gluten etc. so I need to know. Also do you know if Dara Thai/Lao has gluten free food? Its close by and I read good reviews whereas Cha Am apparently wavers.Bea > > > I am planning to spend the day in Berkeley on Friday the 8th and then > dinner there with a friend. Guest guest
Not walking distance but short drive and also in Berkeley are Sea Salt (near san pablo / dwight) and La Limes (Gilman between Hopkins and San Pablo). They are both a bit nicer and can accomodate gf, and will have meat or fish options. On 8/3/08, Beatrice Garth <beagarth@...> wrote: > Thanks Luther--the Cha Am Thai restaurant sounds good. Guest guest
Yeah--a mistake. I meant too much ground up gluten free flour bother these days me due to quickly released sugars. I wake up with a coated tongue, sore throat, itchy areas etc. Candida no doubt. However, I survive; just don't want to do it much if possible.BeaFrom: seamaiden399 <seamaiden399@...>Subject: [ ] Re: gf restaurants in downtown Berkeley?
