so, i've been avoiding Chevy's since someone posted about getting glutened at Chevy's when eating nothing more than a green salad due to the pollution of flour in the air.

anyone have a weigh-in on that? experiences to share?

I just spoke with Sheila from the Oakland Chevy¢s office. She gave me a nice list of menu items which are both gluten-free and dairy-free.

I don’t eat Mexican anymore since I’ve

omitted corn from my diet and also b/c I’ve always gotten sick at every

mex restaurant I’ve ever eaten at which I think is due to CC.  I was on a

business trip a year ago the last time I ate at chevy’s and felt ill for

2 days afterwards…wont touch it.

What I recall reading on this list is that

at Chevy’s basically everything is at risk of cross contamination, so if

you want to play Russian Roulette, go for it.

(At least, that was the over-all

impression I got from the last discussion I remember seeing)

I also no longer eat anything at Chevy's. I can't eat corn products

now, and when I could, I always got glutened there, even when I was

eating things that were supposedly gluten-free. The only thing on the

menu that might be safe for me is the Romaine lettuce salad with only

the romaine lettuce in it, and I'm not going to pay $9 for a head of

lettuce.

Gluten Free in SD maintains a list of GF suggestions and gets fairly

regular updates from Chevy's corporate:

http://glutenfreeinsd.com/chevys.html

I personally don't eat there much, but when I do I avoid going during

peak hours and I inform the manager of my situation and get pretty

good service out of it. I usually order the chicken or steak tacos off

the Fresh Mex Specialties section and haven't had any problems.

Definitely avoid the chips or anything from the deep fryer - which is

like torture when they are sitting there on the table staring at

you...

We bring our own Mission tortilla chips. Not as good, but at least we can eat the (also delicious) salsa. :)

I made a post about Chevy " s about a year ago, They sent me a list

similar to what was given to Trudy with the exception that they said

each restaurant gets their supplies from different suppliers so there

could be variations. At that time they also said the corn custard thing

that they serve on the side was safe. I see it is not on Trudy's list so

maybe they have changed it. With the soft tacos you need to request that

they do not put them in the same tortilla press as the flour tortillas.

As others have stated since they make fresh flour tortillas right there

in the serving room their is flour floating around the room. I have been

to a Chevy's were the tortilla making was done in a glass enclosed room.

That would make it safer. But you take a risk anytime you eat their.
