Guest guest
I looked up the salt content at Chipotles and it is pretty high, but then even very high-end resturants use large amounts of salt. (It drove my son crazy at Le Cordon Bleu). I did ask if they used MSG and the answer was " NOT " . You have to check out their website to understand, it's a bit crazy. They are owned by Mcs, but Chipotles has been given free reign and support to push way outside the fast food framework. They are supporting local farms, humane farming, and healthy food (well, except the salt, maybe). It was reported that Chipotles is what pushed Mcs towards buying grassfed beef. Although it is a tiny amount of their beef purchases, it's a larger percent of the grassfed market. Also, remember almost all the organic and natural brands are now owned by just a few large companies that I for one, hate supporting. I would rather eat my own beef, chicken, and pork (and would rather others on this list eat it too ), but when I'm driving thru town, it's hard to keep my crock-pot cooking in the car (I've really tried this using an inverter-it didn't work)! Guest guest
I avoid fast food but just want to say that a VEGGIE burrito at Chipotle is 27 points on Weight Watchers while the pork carnitas(which are free range) are 9 pts. Goes to show that nourishing traditions is the right way to eat. LOL.
Guest guest
They are not owned by Mc's-they are independent and at one time sought funding and support through Mc's, but as I understand it they went their own way as they discovered how difficult it was to remain committed to their mission, and use Mc's in any fiscal or acquisitional way...They are now looking to source locally for as much produce as they can, wherever they are. --- " bellasol.organics " <bellasol.organics@...> wrote: > I looked up the salt content at Chipotles and it is > pretty high, but > then even very high-end resturants use large amounts > of salt. Guest guest
Wow, thanks for the info! I found the break-up article, it was just back in October. " Chipotle, Mc's Complete Separation " Business Editors/Food Writers DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 2006--With the completion of its tax-free swap of class B common stock in Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE:CMG), for its own common stock, Mc's Corp. has fully divested its investment in Chipotle. Mc's initially invested in Chipotle in 1998 when the Denver-based burrito restaurant had about 15 units, making Chipotle the first concept other than its own Mc's ever invested in. Mc's grew to become Chipotle's largest investor in 2001. Mc's investment helped Chipotle build a national brand with more than 500 restaurants. " Mc's original investment represented a strong vote of confidence in what Chipotle was doing at the time, " said Steve Ells, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Chipotle, who sought Mc's as an investor to help finance the growth of his small burrito chain. " They have been a terrific partner for us, providing needed capital, shared access to other resources as needed, and also the autonomy to pursue our vision. " you can read the rest of the article at: http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=194775 & p=irol-newsArticle & ID\ =916004 & highlight <http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=194775 & p=irol-newsArticle & I\ D=916004 & highlight> There's more information about there new organic purchases, etc. Now I feel even better eating there! Of course I wasn't, it was just I was used to the dry taste in my mouth from standard salts. Carol F
Guest guest
I was at the Chipotle Monterey location today and noticed a listing of their menu items and the allergens they contain. Gluten was contained in only their flour tortillas. I eat there many times per month and have been so pleased with the quality, now I know I can venture to the other meats instead of the usual chicken. Which is very delicious by the way.
