Guest guest
In our house, we're mad about home-made cranberry sauce. We hoard good-quality, sorted cranberries, which we freeze, for use throughout the winter months. We're a little suspicious about the pre-frozen cranberries, as we can't check for quality. Home-made cranberry sauce, the plain kind, stays good for a very long time in the refrigerator. But usually people use it up right away during snack raids. H. And thank you for throwing that in there, I got a good laugh from it. I shouldn't laugh though, it could very well be that someone out there didn't know that. Guest guest
I went to the Walnut Creek Whole Foods today to find out the pre-made GF options. Well, it was a very informative visit. They showed me the list of items that they will be offering. In BIG BOLD RED letters it says SOME ITEMS ARE NOT MADE IN A DEDICATED GLUTEN-FREE FACILITY. So, I asked which items. They said they didn't know. I asked about the turkey, which is by Diestel and they said that it is raised at a family owned ranch in the Sierra Foothills and shouldn't be prepared or injected with any gluten containing items. Luckily, I did see the packaging for the Diestel Natural Turkey and it said it was JUST turkey, no fillers. They suggested that everyone pre-order their turkey to be on the safe side. According to the Holiday Table informants, the gluten-free items, will be available starting November 20th, over on the far left of the store across from the Deli. So when you see the deli, turn and it is on the aisle which has a refrigerated unit. Generally that unit houses pre-made lunches, some beverages (like Tejava) and occasionally I have seen gluten-free bread in that area. However, the bread has since moved to the dedicated Gluten-Free freezer. The informants were very thorough about answering ALL my questions. They even asked how sensitive I was and I explained that I am a Celiac.. As soon as I said that they immediately advised that I NOT get any of the pre-made items that were offered in their list. So, hopefully this helps out a little for anyone planning a safe Thanksgiving dinner. I did go to Mariposa today, the bread cubes looked great for making a stuffing. Just a little daunting for someone (me) who has never made stuffing from scratch. Recipe time! I wonder if each Whole Foods is different when it comes to their gluten-free offerings? > > > > I found out today whole foods has taken one of our suggestions to > offer > > a premaid gluten free thankgiving meal here is what is offered: pre- > > roasted turkey, pre-roasted smoked turkey, hams, garlic mashed > > potatoes, smashed yukon gold potatoes, wild rice and cranberry > > stuffing, green beans with roasted shallots, brussel sprouts with > > shallots and pecans, shitake mushroom nad ciploni onion confit, apple > > glazed sweet pototoes, roasted harvest puree with butternut yams > > carrots and a hint of orange, roasted butter nut squash salad, whole > > baked apples, saffron poached peaches, classic cranberry relish. > > > > Also you can pick up gluten free pumpkin pie from crave, gluten free > > turkey gravy (can rember the brand) and then premaid gluten free > whole > > food buiscuits. kc > > >

Guest guest
I know for sure there is a woman at walnut creek WF who is very well informed and I think her mother helped start one of the celiac camps... I live in berkeley but check out the walnut creek every now and then as they seem to be better informed on gf stuff. AFAIK, Ocean Spray brand is gluten free; I just can't eat it due to issues with corn, and I think the canned sauce has both kinds of corn syrup. --Ruth Anne
