Guest guest
I don't mean to scotch the party but a low to medium price range restaurant may not know anything about gluten. You put him at risk. How about some Tinkyada GF pasta from your local natural food store and Amy's Family Marinara Sauce, a salad with O/V dressing? That's not really cooking at all. mb -------------- Original message -------------- From: "braggh" <braggh@...> Hi, I need recommendations for GF restaurants in Santa Cruz area, preferably low-medium price range. Any suggestions? My nephew is extremely sensitive to gluten and I don't feel like cooking tonight. Thanks!
Guest guest
My 9-yr old celiac daughter loves Thai food, and we've had no problems with it at our local favorite here in Palo Alto (we do talk with the owner first, she does understand). She orders chicken satay and sticky rice, and the restaurant doesn't use soy sauce in these dishes, not even in the peanut sauce. Perhaps there's a good Thai place in Santa Cruz? Mexican can also be safe -- you just need to discuss it with the owner/chef. A few phone calls before you go out might find you a good inexpensive place to eat GF. Best of luck. Guest guest
I've eaten at the Jumping Monkey Cafe in Santa Cruz -- it has some south indian style dishes including rice, sambar (spicy soup) and dosas (lentil/rice flour pancake with potatoe filling). I'm not sure I would have eaten there when I was 9, but when I did eat there I enjoyed it and did not get a reaction. The guyr working there are the time seemed pretty knowledgeable about the ingredients. I'll second the Thai recommendation, but I always ask if they use any wheat, soy sauce, or oyster sauce in any of the dishes I am going to order. Most restaurants don't, but I went to one Thai restuarant that had soy sauce in every dish (even the green curry, yellow curry, etc.). Oyster sauce might not have any wheat, but cheap ones do, or so I have read. I've had pretty good luck at most Mexican restaurants -- I usually just order the burrito in a bowl instead of a tortilla. -Luther On Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 6:01 PM, D Darcy <ddarcy@...> wrote: > My 9-yr old celiac daughter loves Thai food, and we've had no problems with > it at our local favorite here in Palo Alto (we do talk with the owner first, > she does understand). Guest guest
Next time bring a Food For Life brown rice tortilla and have them steam it up for your burrito! (Caveat: make sure they clean the steamer first.) Pam ..
