Guest guest
The new FDA rule on voluntary gluten-free labeling will be very helpful, but it looks like they will be published late. Here's a message from the Celiac Disease Foundation on the topic: " Below is a statement given to us by the FDA with regard to defining what is “gluten-freeâ€. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the final rule to define the food labeling term " gluten-free " will be published sometime after FDA solicits and considers public comments on the agency's safety assessment report on gluten exposure in individuals who have celiac disease. A Federal Register notice will be published to announce the availability of the safety assessment report. Interested individuals may wish to periodically check FDA's website http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/lab-cat.html#gluten for updates on the safety assessment report and the final rule. " This sounds like it will take a while. There seems to be no repercussions for the FDA if it is behind schedule on this. Better to be late and thorough, I suppose. - > > One small step for the FDA, one big step for Celiacs? > atlanticville.gmnews.com/news/2008/0710/front_page/011.html > (I omitted the http:// part hoping that wouldn't add spaces to the web address) >
