Guest guest
Andi... I find it very interesting that PSC attacked athletes. In this past year here in Akron the newspaper ran stories on 2 local athletic coaches that had the same disease .... In one story the guy received a liver from another who lived within 10-12 miles of him and had died in an auto crash from head injuries. He reunited with the donors wife and the story ran front page on the local section. In the other the coach got 60% of the liver from some woman who knew and admired him, but was not related. She just wanted to help him as she felt he was an asset to his community. Imagine a live donation from some one who was more or less a stranger! What courage and love of fellow man. Both procedures wer done at the Cleveland Clinic . I `ll try to access the archives of the Akron Beacon Journal and see if I can find the stories and try to forward them. Jerry This article will make you all feel warm inside. Dont ever give up!!! http://www.denverpost.com/olympics/oly0729.htm
Guest guest
Hey Jerry, Randy and I met the coach who received the liver from the lady associate of his. He had just had his transplant the week prior to us being in Cleveland to speak on a Living Liver Donor forum. He was doing quite well and recovering. Although the risks are high, I am curious why more living liver donor surgeries are not being done? I have evaluated that some insurance companies wont cover the cost of the donor evaluations and then some companies wont pay an employee (donor) who is off work. Great system we have here isnt it? Gotta love it..... Cheryl
Guest guest
Cheryl...... Yeah doesn`t make sense but, you know it`s all about money. They have a story from time to time in the paper about that coach.... recently there was one about the basketball coach of DeMatha ,H.S. in land who was transplanted after having PSC--- the paper mentioned that 4 (FOUR) local coasches (inc. the one you met) have recently been transplanted (although his was the only live one ). All of these Coaches suffered from PSC.... I find that very strange - I mean what are the odds? PSC is relatively rare and all these guys are in the same profession I had been hoping to get together with you and Randy but I understand -it being a special and probably emotional day - maybe next time. You`ll continue in my prayers.... Love and serenity Jerry Hey Jerry, Randy and I met the coach who received the liver from the lady associate of his.
