Guest guest
You could dip pretty much anything into evaporated milk & honeyed corn flakes and fry them up in butter and they'd be spectacularly delicious, don't you think?! I might just try this with tofu for my vegetarian family... I then simply cooked them in a pan with a combo of butter and olive oil, oh and I salted and peppered the breasts first after washing them. The chicken breasts were better than NON GF! They sealed in the juices, cooked to a crisper texture and our entire family voted them better than with gluten! **************Make your life easier with all your friends, email, and favorite sites in one place. Guest guest
Thanks so much everyone for all of the suggestions! I guess I should have also mentioned that I am casein intolerant as well, sorry! But my mom bought some Zatarain's (the easiest option for her) and I have actually already taken some of your ideas to the kitchen--last night I dipped raw chicken strips into smashed brown rice crisps (~rice crispies) and sauteed them with a teensy bit of olive oil, and added plenty of Tony Chachere's---YUM! My boyfriend and I are addicted already! Thanks for all of your recipes, I will keep trying them out and love them all I'm sure! www.NaturallyDahling.com > > You could dip pretty much anything into evaporated milk & honeyed corn flakes > and fry them up in butter and they'd be spectacularly delicious, don't you > think?! Guest guest
Uh oh, MSG is especially something I am not cool with eating!! Unfortunatley, I did not look up the ingredients, just forwarded on this suggestion. Darnnit, I really don't know if I'll be able to convince my mom to change her planned recipe now, but I will try. She usually eats pretty healthily and I would think would avoid MSG, but she's probably been eating Zatarain's her whole life and would never question it. Thanks for the head's up. I may just have to fake it or something! --- In , " Wallace " <AWallace@...> wrote: > > Zatarain's has MSG and soy...2 things Celiacs can strongly react too. > > > > > > From: > [mailto: ] On Behalf Of > kristenevelyncampbell > Sent: Tuesday, December 16, 2008 11:31 AM > > Subject: [ ] Re: Panko Alternatives? Guest guest
Yeh, I’m no fan of MSG either and avoid all products that contain it…they also include hydrogenated oils which I steer clear of too. You could point out those 2 facts to your mom so you wont have to fake eating something that isn’t the best. Guest guest
I agree. Soy does not contain gluten, and is not off limits for the gluten-free Celiac diet. Some people have additional allergies and soy is an allergen, but that's all. It is possible for msg (especially in imported products, like from China) to contain gluten. I understood that most msg in US products was ok, but I could be wrong. Personally I avoid it because it is not especially healthy. - > > For newbies, not ALL people with celiac react badly to soy. > H. > > In a message dated 12/16/08 12:04:17 PM, AWallace@... > writes: > > > > Zatarain's has MSG and soy...2 things Celiacs can strongly react > > too. > >
Guest guest
Hi All – just want to clarify my statement…I wrote “2 things Celiacs CAN strongly react to.” As in possibly, I didn’t me that you would react…but just that it’s a possibility. I know there’s a lot of new people…I know when I was first diagnosed I felt bad for 2 ½ years before I realized I had issues with other allergens…Just throwin’ it out there. Guest guest
I am happy to hear your suggestions! I have not really noticed a problem with soy, but I also rarely eat anything with soy in it, but I was eating way too much corn and seem better off without it. I am already severely intolerant to gluten and casein, does anyone also have a problem with corn? > > > > For newbies, not ALL people with celiac react badly to soy. > > H. > > > > In a message dated 12/16/08 12:04:17 PM, AWallace@ > > writes: > > > > > > > Zatarain's has MSG and soy...2 things Celiacs can strongly react > > > too. > > > >
Guest guest
Hi – I am corn free. I stopped eating corn 9 months ago (been a Celiac since 2004) and have felt WAY better. I used to eat corn tortilla chips and for the longest time I thought it was the salsa bothering me and I went & tried a few salsas, but no difference. Then I remembered when I would eat salsa on eggs or something else, it wouldn’t bother me. So I did some trial and error tests eating taco shells (hard and soft), chips, corn on the cob and once I cut it out I stopped feeling ill. I even try and avoid things derived from corn. I am peanut and soy free. The only soy that doesn’t bother me is soy lecithin and soy beans in their natural state. Try some elimination experiments and see how it goes. Good luck!
