Guest guest
I’m not sure of any GF syrup (I use the real stuff or agave) – but just a reminder, if they provide butter, make sure he goes first and doesn’t contaminate his GF pancakes J From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Marci Riseman Sent: Thursday, December 18, 2008 4:57 PM Subject: [ ] pancake syrup Does anyone know if pancake syrup (not real maple syrup) is GF? My son's school is having pancake day tomorrow--the 8th graders make pancakes for all the younger kids. Cute, except if you have celiac. I am sending my son to school with GF pancakes and I'm wondering if I also need to provide syrup. I assume they'll be serving some inexpensive type of fake maple syrup to go with the pancakes. I would rather he never eat it, but also it's nice when he can have what the other kids are having, for once. Thanks for any ideas... Marci .. Guest guest
As always I would show up to the breakfast with a "spare syrup" in purse and read the label of the syrup they are serving, if he can have the one they are serving it's a bonus! Nice you are sensitive to the fact you want him to have what is being served. Robinrobin@... Guest guest
If you don't know the specific syrup (product name and manufacturer) and have read up on it in the GF fora, checked the GF food references, or heard from the manufacturer itself, I think you should send your own syrup. And I would send real, pure maple syrup, as there is nothing else like it. My wife has not had a problem with it at all. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your thoughts! Very helpful. We'll send in syrup...we've been using agave syrup, instead of maple, since it's lower on the glycemic index (for anyone on the list who has diabetes or blood sugar issues). Guest guest
Just wanted to note that some people are allergic to agave--myself included. Gave me a humdinger of a migraine for two days...I know another woman who has celiac who says it makes her get sores in her mouth... Why I can't say.Bea > From: j. hogle <jjhogle (DOT) com> > Subject: Re: [ ] pancake syrup > > Date: Thursday, December 18, 2008, 5:58 PM > If you don't know the specific syrup (product name and > manufacturer) and have read up on it in the GF fora, checked > the GF food references, or heard from the manufacturer > itself, I think you should send your own syrup. > > And I would send real, pure maple syrup, as there is > nothing else like it.
