Different people seem to have different responses to gluten. Some are immediate, some are intense, some are long-lasting. Some are delayed, or mild, or brief. Or, there may be any combination of these.

Some of us with CD have no noticeable symptoms.

A given person's "usual" reaction can change over time.

.. . . Can you please tell me what a classic celiac response seems like?

Do you feel it?

Is it immediate?

Thank you !!

To clarify when I said ‘classic

celiac’, I meant MY classic celiac response. There is no “classic

celiac response” per se, it is different for each person.

Mine is fairly immediate. Ten

minutes. You could probably set your watch by it. The first thing I

notice is the intense pain in my joints. Then I HAVE to go lay

down. BEYOND exhaustion… I break out – HUGE zits.

Then I “pee out my butt” for the next three days any time I eat any

solid food (liquid stays). Oh, and every little thing that goes into my

mouth (including even a sip of water) I can feel moving through every inch of my

intestines like molton hot shards of glass.

After that, I’m fine…

;-)

I have some similarities, I can relate to

you Lillyth, with the “BEYOND exhaustion” if I’m curled up on

the couch passed out my roommates say “…you got glutened didn’t

you?” It’s like the life is sucked out of you…I also

get the intense joint pain….the intestinal issues come a day later.

I hibernate until it’s over. Luckily I haven’t had that

happen in a long time…and I happened to have a doc appointment today with

f/u bloodwork results and my antibody levels are normal…no trace signs…it’s

nice to know the incessant carefulness pays off!
