Guest guest
I'm pretty sure you didn't poison yourself! A food marked gluten free should be safe, though some that say they are gf on the box may have been processed in a facility that also processes gluten containing ingredients -- depending on your sensitivity and your comfort level with the possibility of cross contamination, you may or may not want to eat that food... There were sprouted things in them, but was assured they were not sprouted wheat. I ate the bar, and am wondering if I just poisoned myself. Are some 'Gluten Free' foods, still be dangerous to someone with Celiac Disease? Thank you! **************Plan your next getaway with AOL Travel. Check out Today's Hot 5 Travel Deals! Guest guest
If a product is labeled as wheat free they may still contain other gluten containing products. Barley (malt) being the primary additive. Their are a lot of products that I have found that would be safe to eat except for the addition of malt to the product. So you have to be careful there. The only thing I have found is that products labeled gluten free can still have oats in them since oats have been taken off the national requirements for the products being labeled gluten free. I am still sensitive to oats and have been caught several times buy purchasing a product labeled gluten free, eating them, getting sick, going back and reading the label to see that they have oats in them. They are usually from a certified gluten free source but I have seen it where they just say oat fiber and do not give a source. So I now even read labels on products labeled as gluten free.
