Guest guest
Hi Connie! Great question, I was actually wondering the same thing. I am about to be on Kaiser as well, and was glad to find this listing for Dr. Brown RD, CDE on Celiac.com Brown RD CDE Kaiser Medical Group San Francisco, CA Tel: (415) 833-3862 E-mail: scott.brown@... He is a registered dietitian (not a primary care doctor or gastro) but I would imagine you could contact him for names of doctors he partners with. Has anyone had any experience with Kaiser in the Bay Area specializing in CD or gltuen intolerance? Or w/ Brown specifically? Thanks! www.NaturallyDahling.com
Guest guest
There are two celiac specialists at Kaiser Santa Clara, but both are in pediatrics. They work with the support group Kaiser runs, and I think highly of both of them. However, the brain is still asleep this morning, and I can't think of their names! Will post again later when the memory cells wake up. Guest guest
This seems terribly strong criticism if the doctor did no worse than exhibit a poor sense of humor, a bad "bedside manner". He may have thought that what he saw as a light approach would help you approach CD in a positive way. H. At the time I was anemic and frightened about how I'd have to change my life and I focused on trying to get better. Anyway, avoid this guy at all cost. Guest guest
OMG, good to know! You should review him on Yelp. I had an awful experience with an allergist in SF, and oddly enough he kept talking to me about his reviews on Yelp and trying to explain the couple of bad ones on there. Most of the reviews were really positive, so I thought nothing of it. But after the experiences I had there, I quickly added my negative feedback on Yelp to help get the word out. Guest guest
Putting in my two cents, I would not see a doctor with a "bad bedside manner" unless there was no other choice. It is fairly insensitive to tease someone who is receiving a life-altering diagnosis for the first time. It's all about timing and "attunement" to your patient. You need to build trust and a partnership. By the way, I am a therapist who is gluten intolerant and I will only work with my own doctors who are not only very knowledgeable, but are caring and have good communication skills.Caryn Gottfried On Nov 18, 2008, at 2:06 PM, flatcat9@... wrote: This seems terribly strong criticism if the doctor did no worse than exhibit a poor sense of humor, a bad "bedside manner". Guest guest
Well, that depends. If it's a surgeon, he/she can be a total jerk, as long as he/she is exceptionally good in the OR! For ongoing health care, though, they gotta be someone you can work with. This seems terribly strong criticism if the doctor did no worse than exhibit a poor sense of humor, a bad "bedside manner". Guest guest
I forgot this about Dr. Pritikin -- after the biopsy, when I was still groggy, he wanted to talk about movies and books and did make a couple of jokes about celiac, though I was so out of it I couldn't get too worked up about it. Also, when he called with the results, and I asked him, "Now what?" he told me to go on a gluten free diet and to find information on the web. That was it. When I said, "You're giving me a diagnosis of a lifelong autoimmune disease and telling me to rely on the internet for medical advice?" he laughed. Then I told him that I wanted an appointment with a nutrionist, which he did make for me right on the phone. I made my own appointment with another gi doc later that day. Haven't seen Dr. Pritikin since. So I have to agree that he really doesn't make you confident in his ability to help you manage disease. He's fine for the biopsy but not follow-up, in my opinion.
