Guest guest
Go back about a week, we discussed this already. This is an urban myth--see message 13645. I know that some people are concerned about this, but my opinion is that we have to pick our battles, we can't live in a bubble. I'm much more concerned about mercury and other toxic metals. And flouride. These are much more worrisome to me than SLS or propylene glycol. Believe me, I'm as worried about toxins as anyone, but I just think that there is someplace you have to draw the line, and I feel that letters like this that get passed from newsgroup to newsgroup and cause alarm are the kind of thing that make those of us with legitimate concerns about toxins look kooky. I remember about a year and a half ago there was a letter circulated about suntan lotion causing blindness in children. Well, I worked at a child care center with toddlers at the time and we had had several instances of toddlers rubbing suntan lotion in their eyes, and all of them could still see. I've also gotten it in my eyes more than a few times. Yes, it stings like hell, but I still see just fine and I don't know of anyone who has become blind from it. I don't mean to offend anyone. Just my $.02. > A friend of mine forwarded the following message to me. It looks > serious so please read it. > > Subject: Check your Shampoo from doctor nabil k 32. Guest guest
I use Avalon Organic Botanicals which doesn't contain SLS. I buy it at Trader Joe's or the health food store/co-op. S -------------------------------------------------------------- I read a post yesterday stating that there was no shampoo with sodium lauryth sulfate...Just to let you know I found 2, that replaced it with Sodium Myreth Sulfate (is this OK?) Guest guest
I had problems with my hair getting thin and falling out because of the ursodiol. I found a pill in the pharmacy at Walmart called Biotin. My hair came back and is as thick as it ever was plus it boosts your metabolism. Guest guest
I have learned that prednisone makes your hair grow and Imuran (immunosuppressant) makes it fall out...when I was on both drugs, the top of my head got thinner and my chin grew hair! lol Was NOT pretty....now all this time later, my head is still thin and my chin still needs to be waxed! UGH! Couldn't it have gone the opposite way? Of course not! lol Funny......not the most pleasant side effects.....of course MUCH better than the psyhosis I experienced while on prednisone....now that's another story! Guest guest
Try Young Living's kids shampoo and body wash. I use that and I don't think that there are any of the other ingredients. Guest guest
> > Hi everyone! > My health food store now carries Dr Hauschka Shampoo! Has anyone else tried it? I know they are a great company and I am thinking of trying it when I use up my current one. But first I wanted to show Bee the ingredients so I don't mess up again. <snip> Hi , Dr Hauschka's Shampoo is very complex with ingredients that aren't decipherable nor understandable. In other words there are way too many ingredients. Carrageenan is a neurotoxin (causes damage to the nervous system & brain), and Diatomaceous Earth is a form of glass (see the article in the Files after the folders for Diatoms. Alcohol is not okay in a shampoo. Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein & Hydrolized Milk Protein are not okay either. It should be perfume-free as well. ==>Try to find something that is simplier with less ingredients. The one I use is from Nature Clean: http://www.franktross.com/nature/inside/herbsham.asp Luv, Bee
Guest guest
Hi and Bee, The brand " Terressentials " seems to be really good. Their Website home page is: http://www.terressentials.com/ On that page, you can choose which section you want to browse. Their Haircare section page is: http://www.terressentials.com/haircare.html Their Fragrance-free Pure Earth Hair Wash especially has remarkably few ingredients (organic, all natural): " Infusions of certified organic nettle, certified organic chamomile and certified organic shavegrass in distilled water, natural clay minerals, certified organic tincture of wildcrafted linden flower. " Their scented hair wash are also all natural. For e.g., their Lavender Garden Pure Earth Hair Wash ingredients are: " Infusions of certified organic nettle, certified organic chamomile and certified organic shavegrass in distilled water, natural clay minerals, certified organic tincture of wildcrafted linden flower, essential oils of certified organic true lavender, certified organic sweet orange, certified organic rose geranium, certified organic ylang ylang and certified organic clove bud. " For all shampoos, ingredients lists also state: " You won't find any of this: Ammonium lauryl sulfate, behenamidopropyl dimethylamine lactate, butyl paraben, cetyl alcohol, cocamide MEA, cocamidopropyl betaine, cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, hydrolyzed protein, lauramide DEA, methyl glucose dioleate, myristamine oxide, octyl methoxycinnamate, olefin sulfonate, polysorbate 20/60, sodium cocosulfate, sodium hydroxymethyl glycinate, sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, sodium myristoyl sarcosinate, soyamidopropalkonium, stearalkonium chloride, TEA (triethanolamine) lauryl sulfate... " Hoping this can help. (I am planning to try their products as soon as I can. They are remarkably not expensive.) Fran

Guest guest
I switched to Terressentials clay hair wash. Everything they make is organic and EDIBLE. There is precious little on the market -- pretty much all other shampoos have plastics and chemicals in them. http://www.terressentials.com/If you read their website it's pretty shocking how different they are than everyone else out there making personal care products. Dr. Bronners is the only other product I use. For my teeth, I use Tooth Soap. If you wanted to you could make your own Terressentials style clay wash. It's just aloe vera juice mixed with bentonite clay and some essential oils. They also have herbs in theirs but you could leave those out. I rinse with diluted ACV and/or lemon juice and leave it on.If you don't want to use clay, you can also use baking soda to wash your hair. I prefer the clay though becuase it gets all the residual gunk out faster than baking soda (which can take months). While your hair is detoxing, you will go through a greasy phase. Once you get through that you will be free of all of the crap in your hair. I've been " no poo " for a couple of weeks now and my hair is not greasy. Only at the end of the day. I've been following Terressentials recommendations to speed up the detox (I leave the clay on for an hour wrapped up in a towel before rinsing). They don't recommend doing this with chemically treated hair. Switch to natural henna or lighten with lemon juice and/or chamomile. There is a lot more info on this on the discussingnt list -- search for " no poo " . Guest guest
So have I been kidding myself that the Aubrey Organics shampoos that we use are okay? Aubrey is always reputed to be one of the "purer" brands, but it sounds like maybe not? Re: [ ] shampoo I switched to Terressentials clay hair wash. Everything they make is organic and EDIBLE. Guest guest
I looked up the ingredients. Looks pretty good. It's soap based, not detergent based. The big reason to go no poo is to avoid chemicals and detergents which strip the hair of its natural oils (and makes your hair oilier). I tried using soap (Dr. Bronners) once on my hair and it was super oily and left a residue. The clay wash works much better for me.I think if Aubrey is working for you, stick with it. Guest guest
After doing all this reading, I just use water on my daughter's hair and will not use shampoo. As she gets older I will use baking soda or bentonite clay mixed with aloe vera, rinsing with diluted apple cider vinegar. Dr. Bronner's is fine to use -- it can make the hair develop a waxy build-up though. I prefer using clay or baking soda.Ann MarieOn Jan 4, 2008 6:57 AM, samadamfamily < samadamfamily@...> wrote:thank you guys for all the info. i'm going to order some today. i found a recipe to makeyour own shampoo using herbs and dr. bronner's as a base with some MSM in it, but i'm afraid to try dr. bronner's on my hair because i've heard it can be drying. does anyoneknow what shampoo you can use for babies/toddlers? Guest guest
I use the clay wash from Terressentials. You mix the baking soda with water to form a paste. I used baking soda but I wasn't crazy about it -- too itchy. However, most no-poo'ers use baking soda and ACV. Some use only water. Some use Dr. Bronners. Some use sea salt. Of those who use baking soda, everyone has a different recipe. It truly is different for everyone. Depends on your hair type.Read the LiveJournal No Poo community for more information: http://community.livejournal.com/no_poo Here's the " basics " page: http://babyslime.livejournal.com/174054.htmlOn Jan 4, 2008 9:05 AM, samadamfamily < samadamfamily@...> wrote: ann marie, how much baking soda/bentonite clay do you use and what do u mix the baking sodawith? right now i've just been giving my son a bath with a cup of apple cidar vinegar in t

Guest guest
On my face I have been using diluted Dr. Bronners and then moisturize with plain extra virgin coconut oil. It's amazing how much I used to spend on various facial cleansers and moisturizers -- my face does fine with this! I also use the Terressentials lip balm. So delicious -- smells like chocolate! And it doesn't burn like other lip balms do.
