Guest guest
ok so i tried the no poo thing, i'm waiting for my terressentials to arrive and i used baking soda, that didn't really work. then i used some dr. bronner's the next time now my hair is so greasy it looks like i haven't washed it in weeks, and my scalp is flaking. its wierd that my hair would do this because i've been using so called natural shampoo's for years like aubrey organics and burt's bee's. i have no color and my hairs in excellent shape but i look like a big grease ball what can i do? thanks sam > I use the clay wash from Terressentials. > > You mix the baking soda with water to form a paste. Guest guest
The same thing happened to me while I was waiting for my Terressentials! I would just wait for it. Dr. Bronner's leaves a waxy build up for many people. When you get the Terressentials, wash your hair with it 2 or 3 times and then leave it on for an hour or so wrapped up in a towel -- then rinse with ACV or lemon juice diluted. I've been using Terressentials for the past few weeks. I try to leave it on for an hour at least a couple of times a week. My hair gets greasy after 24 hours but it's starting to look a lot better. I actually used baking soda yesterday and it looks fine. It didn't work for me before. I think b/c my hair has detoxed a lot since using the clay wash.Ann MarieOn Jan 8, 2008 7:23 AM, samadamfamily < samadamfamily@...> wrote:ok so i tried the no poo thing, i'm waiting for my terressentials to arrive and i used baking soda, that didn't really work. then i used some dr. bronner's the next time now my hair isso greasy it looks like i haven't washed it in weeks, and my scalp is flaking. its wierd thatmy hair would do this because i've been using so called natural shampoo's for years like aubrey organics and burt's bee's. i have no color and my hairs in excellent shape but ilook like a big grease ball what can i do? Guest guest
Yes that is the idea -- our hair is overly greasy now because we keep stripping it with detergents and also putting chemicals and plastics on it that leave a residue. On Jan 8, 2008 10:49 AM, samadamfamily < samadamfamily@...> wrote: i'm so glad to hear that, i thought maybe it was just me. i read on live journal that yourhair will eventually go back to the way it was when you were a child is this true? i never wash my DS hair and its never greasy. Guest guest
....Except Burt's Bees is now owned by Clorox. There are far better choices! Hi all, New to the list but enjoying the thread about soaps. Does anyone have thoughts on Burt's Bees shampoo and conditioner - are all the ingredients ok? I have dry, curly hair and that's what I've been using. I've read that if you don't use shampoo at all, your hair will start to produce its own oils. Mine certainly has no oil now. Do any of you *not* wash with shampoo, and how is that working for you? Thanks,
Guest guest
I wash with homemade lye soap, works fine. I don't wash my hair every day, maybe every 3-4. Guest guest
I don't use shampoo. I wash with baking soda mixed with a little water. Rinse well with water. I then pour a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water ( 1 T. ACV in 1 cup of water) on my hair and don't rinse this out. Guest guest
I never use shampoo. For over 2 years I've been washing my hair with raw eggs. I just beat a raw egg in a small glass and pour it on my wet hair in the shower and massage it onto my scalp. I rinse it out after 2-5 minutes. -Jon > > > <<I don't use shampoo. Guest guest
I first wet my hair. then I pour a little baking soda in my hand and let a little water from my hair drip into my hand so the baking soda is like a paste that I rub into my hair. my hair is short. you could mix the ACV and water ahead of time. I just put a T. of ACV in a glass and fill the rest with water to have ready for the rinse time. I wash my hair at my kitchen sink since I want to use filtered RO water. I don't have a shower filter. > > > <<I don't use shampoo. I wash with baking soda mixed with a little > water. Rinse well with water. I then pour a mixture of apple cider > vinegar and water ( 1 T. Guest guest
Hi Lola, I may get the same sores on my scalp that your talking about. My are scattered, mostly on the front of my scalp. They are dry, itchy and flaky. They stick around for weeks, months.. years and are also in my eye brows and ears.. although not too noticeable. They probably bother me more than any one else notices. Sometimes.. usually they start as an itchy blistery blemish and if/when it doesn't heal they dry out keep flaking over and over again. I figure it is a candida imbalance symptom, right Bee? Anyway.. I found several home made products in the files here: http://tinyurl.com/5fv7jd . I haven't tried any yet but plan to. Has anyone else tried them? I stopped using all my man-made facial skin care products and noticed some improvement. I still have/get the " candida blemishes " though. I tried the 50/50 water/hydrogen peroxide and coconut oil. When I put the water/hydrogen peroxide it stung and turned really white..  and the coconut oil just seems to bring out more blisters. I imagine healing from the inside out will help ease these little gremlins. Using nothing besides occasionally washing w/Dr. Bronner's Peppermint hemp soap seems to be enough for now. It's not a candida imbalance. It is one of the numerous symptoms, diseases, malfunctions, etc. caused by candida toxins. There are over 79 different kinds of toxins, which are designed by nature to break down the body when it dies; that's why they are so powerful. Guest guest
Dr. Bronner's is Castile soap or technically a castile soap blend. It contains organic coconut & olive oils as well as hemp oil, jojoba oil, peppermint oil, mentha arvensis extract (?) citric acid and vitamin E. I checked out Wilderness Family Naturals as recommended by Bee and Dr. Bronner's is the only castile soap they offer there. Bee and I are referring to the same soap. For those who want to avoid hemp oil I found some recipes for it that use only olive oil, which is technically correct for true " castile " soap. It's avialable in most health food stores and comes in both bar and liquid. Compared to what I last paid for mine, WFN is a bit pricey.  Lola wrote: > > HI , >  > Mine is the same as yours...The blisters in front scalp...all of it....I'm now trying oil of Oregino diirectly... .Frequent shampooing helps, but I need to get the Hemp soap you mention...is it a bar or liquid? Ill try my health food store. I'm trying to find Castile soap too a Bee mentioned. Guest guest
Hi, This is my first post to the group (sorry -- it is kind of longish). I have a question that some of you wise Celiacs might be able to answer. I know that I am wheat intolerant & maybe Celiac (but haven't gone through the biopsy yet -- and don't care to go back to eating gluten to get an official diagnosis). I have been on the GF diet for 6 months and am having a rather hard time of it. The diet itself hasn't been too much of a problem (I'm motivated) but I haven't seen the dramatic improvements I had hoped for. I am encouraged by all that I have been reading that says it often takes a year to feel better, so that keeps me going. However, since I am still feeling bad, I am trying to seek out possible hidden sources of gluten in my life & was reading my shampoo bottle the other day & noticed that it has wheat gluten as an ingredient. Is this something I should be concerned about since I don't actually ingest it? If so, does anyone have any recommendations? The brand I have been using is bumble and bumble. I will give you a quick list of symptoms I have been having or that have been improving since I have gone GF in case it helps anyone else out there or if you have any insights: improved -- face redness/acne 90% improved stomach pain 90% improved nausea 90% improved stomach bloating 50% improved weight loss 10 lbs. (although I am eating 2x more) acid reflux 30% improved belching 80% improved not improved or new developments-- mood problems/irritability/anxiety (these are the worst) extreme hunger (I have to eat every 2-3 hours) hair loss (new since going GF) insomnia (new since going GF) joint pain fatigue Many thanks. Guest guest
Your list of remaining symptoms do sound like low thyroid, perhaps Hashimoto's (autoimmune) thyroiditis. All the autoimmune diseases are related, and often people who have one have others as well. I would definitely get your thyroid levels tested. I had all of your symptoms and it turned out to be Hashimoto's and I was also prediabetic--and the GF diet can be higher in carbs than a regular diet, exascerbating blood sugar issues. I went to an endocrinologist who told me I was fine, despite my symptoms, because my thyroid blood levels were basically normal. I suffered for five years before finding a doctor who looked at both symptoms and blood work. I can give you my endocrinologist's name if you are interested. Guest guest
Hi there! I was diagnosed earlier this year as severely gluten intolerant, and can identify with many of your symptoms from the past--and even, sadly, recently. (Especially the hair loss, acne and rosacea--all healed now!) First of all, it is really interesting that you said you use Bumble and Bumble, after going gluten free, I switched exclusively to gluten free cosmetics, skin and hair care products. Then when I went to the salon and they washed my hair with Bumble and Bumble shampoo, my scalp broke out in a rash--naturally, I checked the ingredients and surprise, there was wheat in there. I have had recurrent issues with telogen effluvium for several years now, and it somehow always seemed to correlate to getting off of low- carb diets. A lot of people suffering from celiac disease and gluten intolerance have problems with hair loss, and for me, personally, I have definitely seen a relationship. After a vacation to Mexico this summer, during which we had delicious hot breakfasts every morning, I could not go back to gluten free cereals, and started having Wellshire Farms breakfast sausages. Now, every morning after having these, I had that old acid stomach feeling, but the sausages were labeled " gluten free " and no ingredients seemed to be of suspicion. Well, a few weeks ago on the forum, I learned about an article in the Chicago Tribune which exposed Wellshire Farms for mislabeling. Apparently each of the items that were tested, were found to contain gluten. I quickly stopped eating these, but it was too late, my boyfried and I were sad to see that my hair had already gone back into a stage of telogen effluvium (temp. hair loss). I knew though that I should not worry, as I had taken the hidden gluten out of my diet, and sure enough, my hair has already begun growing again and is not shedding as much. I strongly recommend a) gluten free hair products---sooo important, esp. since you are applying hair products directly to an affected area research the foods you are eating, even ask people on the forum for anything that you suspect could be misslabeled c) consider that you may have other intolerances, I never noticed any problem with dairy, but found out I am also casein (milk protein) intolerant. I actually started a website to recommend my favorite natural, gluten free cosmetics, skin care and hair care products because this can be difficult and even frustrating to find. But there are other products that are safe that are not on my site. Here are shampoos and conditioners that I recommend: -Favorite Shampoo: Sircuit Skin Liquid Crystal Shampoo (this is the first one that I found to produce professional results and so it is on the site, since it is a favorite) -Other Great Natural, Gluten Free Shampoos: Desert Essence Organics (the entire line is gluten free and smells amazing!) and Head Organics (I believe the whole line is also gluten free, the products are also labeled as such, these are not on my site, but can be purchased at Whole Foods and Long's respectively) -Favorite Conditioner: (Sircuit's has wheat germ, so is not an option) I use Hamadi's Leave In Conditioner, I would prefer a product I can use in the shower, but this leave-in really makes the hair look fabulous! (this is another favorite, so on the site) -Other Great Natural, Gluten Free Conditioners: Desert Essence Organics and Head Organics I have written about this topic for Celiac.com, and there is also info. on my website, but please, if you have any other questions, just ask. Sincerely, www.NaturallyDahling.com > > Hi, > > This is my first post to the group (sorry -- it is kind of longish). Guest guest
Just fyi, Hashimoto's is associated with weight gain, not weight loss. It's an autoimmune disease in which the thyroid is being destroyed, which results in low thyroid hormone levels. Low thyroid slows metabolism, and often leads to weight gain, fatigue and lethargy, among other things. (It's easily treatable with replacement thyroid hormone pills.) Best of luck with figuring out what is ailing you! If you also have excessive thirst, definitely test for diabetes. Guest guest
Thanks for all this info. Interesting story about the Bumble & Bumble shampoo -- I will definitely look at your website for new cosmetics ideas. It is interesting that you bring up the Wellshire Farms sausages because, I too, was eating them almost every day until I saw the warnings from this group (thankfully). So, that could also have contributed to my slow recovery. Lynn > > > > Hi, > > > > This is my first post to the group (sorry -- it is kind of > longish).
