Very rarely do you get a dress that fits perfect. Most dresses have to be altered some way or another. Do you like the dress? Did you get a deal? Mine I got on consignment.

I am so sorry that you are having trouble finding a wedding dress. I think this is a common problem for plus-sized brides. I know that when I was looking 6 years ago it was AWFUL! I would even call places tell them my size and ask if they had samples and the clerks would lie to me and say oh yes come in and try some on. Whatever! I would get there and they would have nothing! You might look for a retail outlet that carries Alfred Angelo or Paloma Blanca both of those come in extended sizes off the rack.

Hope you find something beautiful!

Don't apologize for venting. Unfortunately, many of us are there, or have been there. I have been shopping around to buy some new things now that I have lost 30 lbs and it is still difficult because I *swear* I live in a city of really obese women and Walmart/Kmart is the place to shop on our salaries (or lack of) and I get sick of looking like ever woman in the city. I can't wait to be able to walk into the "normal" woman section vs. the plus size section and just pick something off the rack.

My wedding was a different kind of wedding. We got married in shorts. We got married at a park and then after the little ceremony we had a potluck dinner. It was different but fun. I have fond memories of my wedding. I hate to get dressed up, but that might be because I am so big and such. I don't know, but I didn't have to worry about a wedding dress. 340/300.1/299 Its been awhileHi everyone, hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's day... its been a bit since ive posted... been so hectic... i can say i havent gained any weight but i havent lost either... This industrial city has always been a city of immigrants going back to

colonial days, and I remember even as a kid back in the 1950's women were

round and kids were chubby. In fact, it were the *skinny* kids that got

taunted by the rest of us and brought to doctors for fattening up

treatments, not the bizarro world we live in today where even thin kids are

denied their birthday cakes for fear they're going to become obese!

>>and I get sick of looking like ever woman in the city.

As for a place to shop, well, we don't have a Wal-Mart within an hour or so

drive, and K-Mart sizes stop at 24/26, as do all the plus size stores at the

mall, so large women don't have much of a choice - either buy mail order,

wear tight clothes (this is what the majority in this city does, it seems),

or learn to sew. At least if you sew you can make one-of-a-kind creations

that fit well and you *don't* look like everyone else in town. And sewing is

a skill you can use the rest of your life, no matter what your size or life

circumstance.

I hate to tell you, but I don't personally know of any woman of any size who

is happy with the fit of an off the rack garment. Every person is shaped

differently, so even a size 2 can have a problem getting clothing to fit

comfortably. Magazines wouldn't be filled with " how to hide your figure

flaws " articles if mass produced clothing fit everyone. :)

That's an idea: sewing

I *would* consider that just as soon as my working full-time, single parenting, part-time college studying schedule allows But, I will keep it at the back of my mind... lately, it is all I can do to fix some semblance of a healthy meal, keep the dish and laundry mountain from reaching the roof LOL

staying the same beats gaining - that's a shame - our 's goes to 24/26 most of the time - but not in those 2 piece outfits - 24 is it and that is a small 24! I was to be bridesmaid so we spent a lot of time looking - my best bet was alfred.... something with an A. I lucked out the seamstress could make anything I wanted and she was going to be cheaper but then my g/f decided to move up the wedding by months and I didn't have to stand up (whew!) Hang in there - you're going to find the perfect dress for you - I'd check those little bridal stores or the spanish stores with the pretty frilly little girls dresses (I had my daughters jr bridesmaid dress made at one of these years ago) to see if they have a seamstress who could make you a dress. cjl2873 <cjl2873@...> wrote: been so hectic. i can say i havent gained any

Hi Diane,

I really enjoy the water workouts and that is what I started with. I'm 1 year post-revision. I started out with water walking then progressed to jogging and water workout classes. I also found it easier to stretch in the water. I have gradually progressed to a stationary bike, elipital trainer and weight machines. I also walk around my neighborhood 3-4 times per week. My next goal is lap swimming with a snorkel and mask. I initially lost weight during the surgery, but had gained it all back and THEN SOME! So I'm really trying to loose about 15 pounds.... plus the workouts have really helped my flexibility and stamina. I think someone recently posted about their belly sticking out. I have the same problem. I know I have put on some weight, but is some of the protrusion due to the stomach muscles being cut for the anterior part of the surgery? I hope so! I almost look

preggers! Good luck with your workouts. I also started logging my activity on America on the Move website. It really helps me stay motivated. If interested: americaonthemove.org is the site.

Hi Everyone, I haven't posted in awhile. I've been really busy helping my youngest son raise his 2 small children. Jim & I watch them from 5:30am until after 3pm every wkday. I thank God this happened after my Revision cuz if my son needed me before I never could have done it.I have read on previous posts about exercises being done by some after their Revision. I am now interested in doing some weight training in order to put some tone in my upper arm muscles. I read there is a form of Pilates that are do-able after Revision but I don't know if it helps with muscle tone. I found a gym near me and am going there today to ck it out.If anyone here after Revision does exercise could you tell me what type? Thanks,Diane

Diane,

I am 6 months post revision and when I had PT in month four, I was

using a band and continue to use it. Your gym probably has them.

They are resistance bands and come in different " strengths " ; but

basically you stand on one end and then wrap the other end around

your hand and do basic bicep and tricep curls. There are other upper

body exercises you can do with it. Just remember to slightly bend

your knees and protect your lower back by tilting your pelvis

slightly forward. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the encouragement & the information. I am 3 yrs 2 mts

post Revision. I know what you mean when you talk about your

abdomen sticking out, mine does too. I lost about 25lbs after my

revision. I couldn't lose more and this winter I gained back 5 of

it, I went to the gym yesterday and took a tour & found out the

prices. Now I have to think about it & decide what to do. Thanks for

the website too. Take Care, Diane

Thanks Donna, Those bands sound like a good idea. I will ask about

them when I go. Diane

Hi Diane,

Great to hear from you. I am slowly going back through the messages

from while I was away and I was so happy to see a post from you. Its

wonderful that you are feeling good and able to help with the

grandkids....and also that you are planning your workouts.

I don't think anyone directed you to it, but there is a book written

by member Andy Stanton, (and there is a link to more info in the

files or links section) and it's called " Pilates for Fragile Backs " .

As I understand it (I haven't read it) those that have this long

fusion have found it a very helpful reference for working on

the " reformer " and I believe Andy recommends that you make sure you

do " one-on-one " with an instructor who is very well trained in

Pilates, and also who will go through this book. I think DrBoachie

has written an endorsement of the book.

I am not sure if Andy is still reading here regularly...but if she

isn't, I am sure you could send her a private email and ask her any

questions you may have.

Take Care, Cam

ps...just in case you wondered....I keep my upper body fit swimming,

the perfect all body workout in one!
