Guest guest
Has anyone eaten South Indian Food? I am curious if this would be GF? it says that it is rice based....but not sure if GF. Any experiences with this resturant? A new one opened up on Fillmore St in SF. Thanks Melita
Guest guest
I’ve eaten at Dosa a number of times with no issue. There is supposed to be a better and cheaper place just down the block as well. Dosas – the bread – are made with rice and beans and easy to make at home. Guest guest
Valencia St Dosa's menu indicates GF & non GF items (they have at least one wheat-based dosa but most are rice & lentil batters). Many GF items to choose from but a bit pricey. Uttapan Palace, on the next block, has veg only dosas, is much cheaper and just as tasty, maybe even more. There might be more cross contamination issues there, for those who have immediate reactions to gluten exposure. Sharon Wood
Guest guest
I ate at Dosa in the Mission last month and my server was great about my no gluten/no dairy/no corn/no MSG restrictions. When I told her first thing after we sat down, she said, " No problem -- you've come to the right place! " She knew exactly which entrees I could eat. They offer many dishes that can be GF/CF upon request. She was also aware of which optional sauces /condiments were problematic but suggested alternatives. On a couple of dishes, such as the daily special, she wasn't sure and confirmed with the kitchen right away and came back to tell me. But -- since I'm not Celiac, just very gluten intolerant, I didn't ask about cross-contamination, shared cooking space, etc. You may want to call to confirm the steps they take in the kitchen. I didn't have any reactions the next day, so that was a good sign. As an appetizer, they serve complimentary lentil bean " bread " (traditional Indian side) that is GF. Yum. I'm so used to complimentary appetizers (bread, corn chips) that I can't eat - this was one I could. Very exciting! Very good food, a positive GF-CF experience. I definitely recommend it - with the caveat that you may want to confirm what they do in terms of preventing any cross-contamination behind the scenes. > > Has anyone eaten South Indian Food? > > I am curious if this would be GF? > it says that it is rice based....but not sure if GF. > > Any experiences with this resturant? > > A new one opened up on Fillmore St in SF. > > > Thanks > > Melita >
