I remember a patient who had a severe reaction to the antibiotics she was

given. The ward was incredibly busy (open heart surgery ward, and staff

off due to a flu epidemic) and I was single and had more time than most of

the other nurses, so I stayed for a few hours after work doing the thing she

got the most relief from.

Very simple: I mixed a weak solution of CONDIES CRYSTALS - (Potassium

permanganate) into bicarbonate of soda to make a paste. I repainted her

itches every 1/2 hour or so.

The patient even wrote to the hospital saying what a good nurse I was (I

wasn't a good nurse - I hated it). Got me lots of cudos with the matron and

the head hospital doctor though.

I have used it quite a lot for madening itches since.

Hi ladies!

I will keep this brief because I can't sit too long at the computer,

but I wanted to let you all know how I was doing and to thank you all

for your well wishes - and a huge thanks to Edie for coming to visit

and for all of her compliments!

I have to say that it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I am

home and walking without a walker (although slowly) and Dr. Errico did

not feel that I needed a brace. For the most part, I am in bed, but

try to eat my meals sitting at the kitchen table and occassionally walk

around the house just to get the blood flowing. My biggest complaint

is pain in my left leg which I did not have before, but they tell me

this is normal and should subside. I will be visiting him next

Thursday for my post-op visit and I will try to post then.

Thanks again to all - I am now on the " other side " and glad of it!!

Donna,

Whoopeeee! Congratulations!!! Way to go Girlfriend!!!

Okay...we will save the rest of the party for later when you can sit

longer.

Soooo glad to hear that you have come through the surgery well and

haven't found it too much more than you expected. I know your

professional experience and good surgeon have gotten you through this

nicely.

You still have tons of healing ahead of you. Sleep, rest and take all

the time in the world to let your body recover. A year from now you

will be feeling 110% better. Between now and then expect stops and

starts...but eventually your body will find it's new balance.

Okay....go back to bed!

Take Care, Cam

Hey there Donna,

Great to see your post!

Don't forget to take it easy, okay? Really, the key to healing well

is not to overdo it. And it was a pleasure visiting you in the

hospital--

Looking forward to hearing how your progress is going.

Warmly,

Edie

Hi Jennie,

Any kinds of creamy soups were great. Yogurt was great too.

I have been getting in LOTS and LOTS of water!!! PLUS, I have been walking and walking and walking several times a day. I don't go very far at the time but, by the day's end, I have covered about 1.5 miles. I'm ready to move on to liquids that are a bit thicker.
