Guest guest
Ligia I am curious as to your information because rice is not cooked in a fryer so it would not be cooked in the same oil as the fish and tortilla chips. Any place that has deep fried breaded products is suspect when you eat other items that are also deep fried. They really should use dedicated fryers for the chips so they will not have a fishy flavor. I have contacted Baja Fresh to find out for sure what is safe to eat. Guest guest
I went to a Baja Fresh in CA and they told me that they fry their rice. So I asked if they fried it in a dedicated fryer and he said no. they fry chips, rice, and fish tacos in the same fryer. When I called the BAJA FRESH 800 number, the lady could not confirm nor deny. She read off some statement that we take a risk by eating out, etc etc. So, I decided to talk to my local Baja Fresh and see what they say. Guest guest
I have heard before that some restaurants take the used oil from the fryer and use it to pan fry other things, such as Spanish rice. If a restaurant does this, then whatever was cooked in the used oil would be contaminated if it was used to cook gluten products. I don’t know how common this practice is. Pam Viviana wrote: A lot of rice is made by first frying the rice in a little bit of oil, then adding the water. the rice grain keeps its shape better that way. Maybe that's what they mean? I seriously doubt they put the rice in the deep fryer.
