Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My husband makes doughnuts using kamut flour, buttermilk and palm oil. He lets the batter sit to ferment and thay are really good but he only makes them once or twice a year in the fall to serve with fresh pressed apple cider. When he was little donuts were his favorite treat and then in his teen years he changed his diet and felt deprived of donuts until several years ago. Guest guest
Ken, I have to ask him to dig up the recipe. I'll tell him you said hello. Elainie
Guest guest
Perhaps you can find GF cookie that will fill in that craving. Or make toast and add a bit of jam. Then pour the coffee! I often have coffee at my neighborhood bakery. They know that if I want to eat anything there, I must bring my own. I try to be reasonably discreet -- I wouldn't want other customers to jealous of my GF cookie! H. Guest guest
I would kill for a donut.. I drove to Safeway as soon as I saw that they had them .. However being a Nutritional Trainer, I couldnt bring my self to eat one after I read what was in them.. The Anza cinnamon rolls are VERY good.. the blue berry scones with or with out coffee are to die for... and all the ingredients are ACTUALLY food. ..--- In , Melita <leftcoastmelita@...> wrote: > > Well I broke down and bought the Kinnikinnick chocolate dipped donuts from Safeway on Webster. > > Thank goodness they were on sale. Guest guest
I don't especially care for the chocolate donuts, but I do like their sugar donuts. Granted, donuts aren't generally healthy- but the main ingredients (white rice flour, tapioca starch, eggs, sweet rice flour, xanthan gum) are pretty standard ingredients in gluten-free baking. *shrug* And I could be wrong (couldn't find Anza's darned site) but they have plenty of weird alternative baking ingredients too, don't they? Probably less preservatives. Of course, being vegan they would be lower in fat and are definitely lower in sugar... but all of these products are weird in their own way. If you want a donut replacement for a weak moment, I do recommend the kinnikinnick cinnamon sugar donut... just not as a regular staple of your diet, haha. Here's the ingredients for the cinnamon sugar if anyone is curious: Sugar, white rice flour, tapioca starch, cinnamon coating (sugar, cinnamon), water, whole eggs, sweet rice flour, palm fruit oil (non hydrogenated), fructooligosaccharide, yeast, pea protein, egg whites, xanthan gum, fruit concentrate (dextrose, dextrin, fiber), salt, rice bran extract, cellulose, KinnActive Baking powder (sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium bicarbonate, pea starch, mono calcium phosphate) glucono delta lactone, sodium bicarbonate, nutmeg These extra preservatives tend to come up in companies that are trying to distribute widely and have a decent shelf life for their products. If you look at Ener-g foods products ingredient list- they are also pretty unappetizing. On the other hand, most gluten products distributed similarly would have some fairly unappealing ingredients as well- just depends what you're looking for in your food. I still make most of my own baked goods, but it's nice to at least have the option of an occasional donut or other prepared baked good. (The anza products didn't really do it for me... won't be stocking up on them anytime soon.) - PS What's anza's web page? I looked and looked and couldn't find it! Here's the " nutritional " values if we really want to go crazy. haha. Guest guest
but they have plenty of weird alternative baking ingredients too, don't they? actually they dont.... a quick check of the ingreds will re- affirm...even though the ingreds may sound odd THEY are actually FOOD... The food coloring in the donuts I looked at totally blew my mind... seriously food coloring? just like s junk food... not like I recomend eating them for breakfast HOWEVER they are all food..... so the options are food coloring, refined sugars, hydrogenated oils etc etc OR something that has NONE of the later I chose the later.... > > > > Funny...i did the same thing (even though im not a nutriontal > trainer)...i looked at the label and was like no way im putting that > in my body! oh well! > > >
Guest guest
I think it is Azna not Anza. That may be why you had trouble finding their website. Maia
