Guest guest
We've done well at Cabrito, on El Camino, in Sunnyvale. I usually get a shrimp dish, and my son loves one of their appetizers that is masa with filling, and I can't think of the name of it. But we don't eat the chips there. Guest guest
We eat at La Fiesta in Mountain View. They said several of their sauces were GF, the chips are ok, etc. My dd isn't very sensitive, but she hasn't had a problem from eating there yet (she has a bean tostada). Palo Alto Sol also seemed to know what they were talking about and said many things were GF, but we weren't as impressed by the food last time we went. The place on st in downtown Sunnyvale - Valle Sol, I think - was rather rude when we inquired about GF items on their menu, and said we should eat elsewhere. - On Sat, Jan 10, 2009 at 4:52 PM, jillerscroft <jillerscroft@...> wrote: > Hi! > Does anyone know of any mexican restaurants in Sunnyvale/MV/Palo Alto area > that can > accomodate gf? i love Chipotle, but am getting so tired of it! > Jill > >
Guest guest
We go to Celia's in Palo Alto frequently (about 3 times per month). Just ask about ingredients. My son hasn't been glutened yet, after 2 years. He usually orders the deluxe enchilada and we usually share steak nachos. > From: jillerscroft <jillerscroft@...> > Subject: [ ] mexican restaurant > > Date: Saturday, January 10, 2009, 4:52 PM > Hi! > Does anyone know of any mexican restaurants in > Sunnyvale/MV/Palo Alto area that can > accomodate gf? i love Chipotle, but am getting so tired of > it! > Jill
Guest guest
Jill, I save postings on GF resturants from this group and maybe from others, so I'm not sure the exact origin for the below info. Here is GF info on Chevy's for what it is worth... Chevys Fresh Mex® Gluten Information (Revised 11/07) Because our menu items and methods of preparation may vary from state to state, we cannot guarantee this information, however we are fairly confident that this information is accurate. Always alert your server and the restaurant manager of your allergy/intolerance. Several of our grilled items are marinated in a sauce (Agua Negra) that contains soy sauce as an ingredient, so technically these items are not gluten-free. This will explain why many of the grilled meats are not gluten-free. When in doubt, ask your server or the manager if the item is marinated in Agua Negra. You may request that corn tortillas not be put into the fryer as this may cause cross-contamination from the flour products that are fried in the same oil. Any items that are fried or cooked on the grill are subject to potential cross-contamination from flour tortillas, etc. " Appetizers · Guacamole · Salsa · Chips - (although subject to cross-contamination in fryer) Appetizer Accompaniments · Jalapeno jelly · Mango salsa · Sour Cream · Pico de gallo Fresh Salads · Santa Fe Chopped Salad served without chicken or steak (chicken and steak contain soy in the marinade) · Caesar Salad served without chicken or steak (chicken and steak contain soy in the marinade) Dressings · Salsa vinaigrette - GF · Caesar - GF · Balsamic vinaigrette - GF Fajitas · Portobello, Mushroom & Asparagus (with soft corn tortillas only) · Succulent Shrimp (with soft corn tortillas only) · Baby Back Ribs (with soft corn tortillas only) · Fresh Catch of the Day (with soft corn tortillas only) Fajita Accompaniments · Guacamole · Sour Cream · Pico de Gallo · Rice · Beans (black, charra/pinto, refried) · Sweet Corn Tamalito · Soft Corn Tortillas Fresh Mex Classics · Picadillo Beef Taco (with soft corn tortilla only) · Salsa Chicken Taco (with soft corn tortilla only) · Chicken Tamale Sauces · Ranchero Sauce - GF · Green Sauce Fresh Mex Specialties · Mushroom & Artichoke Enchiladas - CG · Chipotle Chicken Enchiladas - CG · Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - CG · Chicken Tacos - GF (corn tortillas only) · Steak Tacos - GF (corn tortillas only) · Fresh Fish Tacos - CG " Over the Top " Tortillas · All Contain Gluten Kiddie Meals · Flour Flauta - CG · Kiddie Cheese Quesadilla - CG · Chicken Bites - CG · Beef or Chicken Taco - GF if corn tortilla (request that it not be fried) · Bean & Cheese Burrito - CG · Kiddie Cheeseburger - GF if served without bun Kiddie Meal Accompaniments · Sweet corn tomalito - GF · Fries - CG Desserts · Chevys Flan - GF (don't eat the chocolate cactus garnish) · Coconut Cajeta - GF (don't eat the chocolate cactus garnish) Comments " At our local Chevy's they have a machine for making fresh tortillas, clearly visible from anywhere you sit in the room. Though I've never asked, I think its pretty safe to assume they make both flour and corn tortillas on the same machine. If you decide to eat at Chevy's in your area, I would call and clarify the origin of their tortillas or stay away from them completely. " " Our local Chevy's has that same big machine, right in the middle of the dining room, and they always try to give us the table right next to it. But the Chevy's locations we have been to (about 4 of them) do not make any corn products on it, just wheat. They buy their corn tortillas from another company because the technique and cooking times are different - or at least that's what their corporate office tells me. Guest guest
I have had great luck at ValleSol on Street in Sunnyvale. They were very helpful - and had great margaritas! Guest guest
Wow, really? What did you eat? They told us the chips were cooked in oil that was also used for flour tortillas and that basically nothing was safe. The waitress flat out told us we should eat elsewhere. Guest guest
My favorite place is The Oaxaca Kitchen in Palo Alto. I give it 4.5/5 stars. The whole restaurant is gluten-free so no worries. http://www.theoaxacankitchen.com/ - Chris > > Hi! > Does anyone know of any mexican restaurants in Sunnyvale/MV/Palo Alto area that can > accomodate gf? i love Chipotle, but am getting so tired of it! > Jill >
Guest guest
I need to point out that this info is dangerously outdated. Last year Chevy's went through corporate re-organization and changed many of their recipes in the process (cheaper ingredients, including sauces). The last time I contacted them, mid-2008, they refused to give out any kind of allergen info and advised me not to bother with their restaurants anymore. Not helpful, but probably the safest advice. I do know that prior to the re-org, when they did give an allergen list, we still had mixed results eating there, and had to be hyper-vigilent that what we ordered was what we got. Guest guest
They have churros on their menu, so I wonder if their fryer is really wheat free?
