Guest guest
Cascal on Castro. It's a tapas place with lots of choices. They have a GF menu. From: roobop2 <cwpowers@...>Subject: [ ] Mountain View Restaurant Ideas Date: Sunday, July 20, 2008, 8:00 PM Hi, I tried looking in the archives for gluten free friendly restaurants in Mountain View. I was not very successful. Any suggestions? I will be taking a friend to dinner who will be my ride to an endoscopy and back. He doesn't eat meat and ranges widely in tastes. It's for this Thursday. Any help would be much appreciated. Carol
Guest guest
No specifics in Mountain View, but in general I have had good luck at Indian restaurants. Avoid anything deep fried like Pakoras or Pappadams (CC) or from the same Tandooi oven that they make Naan in. Ask about specific dishes (some dishes like Koftas might have wheat flour) -- but most of the dishes are usually GF and plenty of vegetarian. At ate a place called Rumi last night in San (just north of Redwood City) and so far I think it worked out well (no reaction yet). They only had one veg entree though. -Luther On Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 8:00 PM, roobop2 <cwpowers@...> wrote: > Hi, > > I tried looking in the archives for gluten free friendly restaurants in > Mountain View. Guest guest
wow - I was at Cascal last week for happy hour and never even asked if they had a GF menu. In fact, I asked our server to check with the chef as to whether the masa coated onion strips had wheat flour (they do) and he never even mentioned a gluten free menu. Now that I know they have a GF menu I can't wait to go back there. The sangria and chips/dips we had were great. Can't wait to try some tapas :-) Jean > From: roobop2 <cwpowers@...> > Subject: [ ] Mountain View Restaurant Ideas > > Date: Sunday, July 20, 2008, 8:00 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > I tried looking in the archives for gluten free friendly restaurants in Mountain View. Guest guest
thanks- I usually do ask. I think being out w/ my co-workers for the first time since going GF lsat yesar I decided to chance it (stupid, I know, but I had no reaction so I was lucky). I felt so high maintainance already with all my gazillion quetsions about food prep when we were ordering and the only thing on the happy hour (1/2 price) menu that looked safe was the chips. But you're right, if I had been out wiht my husband or alone I would have definitely asked them. Does anyone else run into this " peer pressure " kind of thing? I know my co-workers are supportive of my diet restrictions but this was the first time they were also impacted by it. We ended up ordering the chips which I could eat plus the masa onion strings that they also could eat. > > Just a suggestion to always ask how the chips are made.
