Guest guest
Awhile back I had posted looking for some frozen ravioli as my attempts to make it from scratch have been disastrous. I'm originally from upstate NY and am a big time ravioli lover and have been going through serious withdrawal since going GF a year ago. I finally broke down and ordered a bunch of Conte's products from glutenfreemall.com (you have to order a bunch to make the additional $39 dry ice cooler be cost effective). Last night we tried the cheese ravioli and it was very good. It does contain egg and dairy for those with those sensitivities (sorry). I plan to approach the Whole Foods in Cupertino about carrying it (or at least see if they can special order it as I see some Whole Foods back east carry it). It is expensive - one bag is about $10 which feeds 2-3 (12 oz) but at least for me, being a big time ravioli lover, it is worth it as an occassional treat and I'm already conditioned to pay through the nose for GF fare. Who knows, maybe with Whole Foods buying in bulk it could be cheaper than the glutenfreemall price. At any rate, I thought I'd post this review. I tried the cheese ravioli last night but also bought some spinach and cheese ravioli plus lasagna and pizza. I didn't see when I ordered originally but they also have gnocchi and pierogies so next time I'll be ordering that as well. It would be so cool if local restaurants could stock this in their freezers so we could get ravioli at restaurants too but one step at a time :-). Also, a quick poll so I can pass this onto Whole Foods - would you purchase a $10 bag of frozen ravioli? And if not, what would be the sweet spot price-wise that would make it a regular staple in your home?
