How to get GF pizza in SC

Tony, any suggestions as to what might be a good pizzeria to

approach with this idea? Maybe Tony and Alba’s in s Valley

(next to the movie theater; I think if they had GF pizza there our family could

probably account for at least half a dozen pizzas a month) or the Upper Crust

on the west side (How sad that those are the only two pizzerias I can think of).

If so, local celiacs in the Santa Cruz area could get together and make a

request to them to offer GF pizza. If they get enough people asking they

might go for it. Maybe if we get a large enough group together we could

even have a celiac pizza party there to kick things off.

La Rae, is there any particular approach you would recommend in

talking to a pizzeria owner?

I wonder what the pizzerias who now carry GF pizza do to let

people know about it? Is it on the menu? Do they have a sign

advertising it in the store? Do they advertise it in any of their ads?

Having a kick-off event to let local celiacs know about it seems like a good

idea.

I could only wish that one of the pizza places

in Santa Cruz would

offer GF crusts, so I don't have the luxury yet of ranting about any

price differences. (Or if some place in SC is now offering GF and

I've missed it, please let me know :-))

Hi Pam,

Even in a small area the size of ours, I guess the issue is going to

be one of proximity. I live on the east side of SC, so my choices

would be the Tony & Alba's on 41st Ave and the Upper Crust on Soquel

Ave. I get to 's Valley and the west side just about as often as

I get to Moraga (LOL). But to be honest, I am busy enough that I

would probably would go to a GF pizza place a couple of times a week

if it were close enough to me and especially if they delivered to my home.

I agree narrowing down our selection and approach them as a group

would be the right way. How about picking one more centrally located,

like downtown? Would that work? Woodstocks opened a while back (on

River in the plaza with Long's). I'm sure there are other wonderful

places if we look harder, too.

My partner says their pizza is really good and they are more into the

organic/earthy type of stuff, so maybe they'd be up for it. The only

problem he points out is that they are typically very busy and not

sure if that is a good or bad thing when it comes to our situation.

If we do go to a pizza place, I typically get a salad or something

(fortunately, I'm blessed with tolerance to some CC), but I don't know

how any of these places can accommodate those with no tolerance to

CC--there seems to be flour *everywhere*.

Anyway..I wanted to keep this brief and I failed. Sorry ;-)
