Guest guest
Huh. The one distillery that I went to (had the tour, that was fun) used corn as a base for their gin, and the rest was herbs and berries. That was the last time I paid attention to gin because of my juniper allergy. Not an alcohol I should be claiming to be knowledgeable on, I guess. Thanks for the correction. > > Hi all, > Just to clarify. Gin is not *made from* juniper berries. It is nearly always made from grain mash and *flavored with* juniper berries and sometimes other botanicals. It's origin is a gluten-containing grain. Some producers distill the original grain alcohol, some do not. I believe Bombay does distill it, so for those of you that are ok with distilled gluten-alcohol, it might be ok. > > For more info look up gin in Wikipedia, or here http://www.foodandbeverageunderground.com/origins-of-Gin.html > > Perhaps we could make our own gin, using potato vodka as a base?? > http://www.jeffreymorgenthaler.com/2007/how-to-make-your-own-gin-without-a-still\ / > > > > > > > > ----- Original Message ---- > From: Elonwy <elle871@...> > > Sent: Monday, September 15, 2008 8:00:41 AM > Subject: [ ] Re: Soy Sauce and Cocktails.. > > > Gin is made from Juniper Berries, and doesn't come anywhere near > Gluten.
