No, I need to follow up with his regular doctor. Our ND is great, so

I haven't felt the need. And since my son is off gluten, and doing

well, I don't want to have him go back on to do a test.

Question for you all: does it matter if it is celiac or just gluten

intolerance?

Thanks,

Kristy

Yes, I really think it does matter. The diet would be the same, but true celiac

is so much more complicated and multi-faceted than just the diet. Celiac has

associated with it many tendencies toward nutritional deficiencies, higher risk

of diabetes, increased risk of quite a few cancers, certain neurological

problems, growth issues, and a hundred more things. Gluten intolerance is

usually described as just a dietary problem (tho not always) and does not

involve the whole immune system.

You need to know what risks you're facing, and how to anticipate or prevent

problems.

That being said, if your child is already completely gluten-free - I mean 100%

off gluten - I would not do a challenge test. I would do the gene testing

(Prometheus Labs) to evaluate the likelihood of celiac that way.
