gf restaurant review: Straits

Thanks, Tristan, for the restaurant reviews.

I, unfortunately, have a much less pleasant " gf " experience to share.

My friend and I ate at Straits, at the SF Center, last weekend. They have a

menu that lists foods that do and do not contain the common allergens; however,

whoever created it is not all that clear on what gluten is as some items were

marked as containing wheat but being gluten free. (!)

Perhaps that was why my friend and I, celiacs both, got quite ill after eating

there, even though the menu items we ate (a salad, sea bass, and flourless

chocolate cake) we triple checked with our server to make sure were gluten free.

I would not recommend Straits to celiacs.

From asking many questions, I've learned that often " flourless " chocolate cakes

are made in pans coated with flour. So it isn't considered an ingredient by some

bakers, but it is there anyway.

The plant in the Marina has a list of gf dishes and desserts. I love the jasmine rice bowl. MMMM so good!
